Project Fry
By Singer1108

(It was a cold, rainy day in New New York. There weren't any deliveries that needed any immediate attention, so everyone was just sitting around, either watching T.V, reading the newspaper, playing online, or sleeping. Fry, Leela, and Bender were all sitting on the couch, each minding their own business until the Professor came in, shaking with excitement)

P.F: Good news, everyone!

Fry: Did you finally find your lost slipper?

P.F: Oh my, no. That thing is probably lost for eternity.

Fry: (disappointed) Damn.

P.F: Anyway, after several months of research and broken bones, I've finally created an exact replica of the Holoshed!

Bender: The what?

Amy: The Holoshed! That hologram program Zapp has on his ship.

P.F: Exactly, and I've perfected it so the holograms don't actually become real.

Hermes: That's a relief.

P.F: Well, since we all aren't doing anything, why don't we go take a look at my latest creation?

Leela: I'm game.

Amy: Alright!

Zoidy: Hooray!

Bender: Yeah, sure, whatever.

(the crew all gathered in the professor's lab a few minutes later. The Holoshed was covered in a large blanket)

P.F: Well, there it is! The Holoshed 2.0!

Leela: Uh...professor? You haven't removed the blanket yet.

P.F: A-whaaa? Oh, right. (he grabbed the blanket and heaved with all his might until it fell to the ground below)

P.F: There!

(the crew stood in amazement. The Holoshed was tall, rectangular, and incredibly shiny. There were buttons placed all over the outside and a small silver door to the far right, with an indicator saying 'vacant')

Fry: Holy cow, Professor! This is huge!

Leela: Does it work?

P.F: It should. I just need to do a final test. Everyone take a step inside.

(one by one, the P.E. crew stepped inside the large room)

P.F: Ok, so as you know, the Holoshed shows you your wildest fantasies...after you program it into its memory banks of course. After that, the entire room creates your fantasy, and you...uh...stay here, I suppose. Here, allow me to demonstrate. (clearing throat) Run Project: Sleepy Farnsworth!

(the room came to life, and right before the crew's eyes, a holographic nursing home was created with a blue rocking chair and a side table. The professor let out a shout of joy, and sat in his chair. Within a few minutes, he was knocked out cold.)

Hermes: Sweet honey bee of infinity! It works!

Bender: Big whoop. All he did was do something he can do outside this metal box.

Fry: I wanna make a project!

Leela: Fry, you know nothing about computers.

Fry: Hey, I'll figure it out. (thinking) I hope.

Fry: I even have the perfect name!

Leela: Let me guess, Project Fry?

Fry: No, i was gonna say Project Fun Thingy...but I like that better. Thanks Leela!

Leela: (thinking) oh lord...

Fry: Now, someone help me wake the professor up. He needs to help me.

Leela: I thought you said you could figure it out?

Fry: Are you kidding? Leela, I'm an idiot. I could never figure this out.

Amy: No spluh.

(a few months had passed and no one had really seen fry for that duration of time. He was always working with the professor to create 'Project Fry'. No one seemed to be too concerned, except for Bender and Leela)

Leela: I'm worried about Fry.

Bender: Me too. He hasn't stayed home to watch All My Circuits with me in so long.

Leela: Do you think we should go check on him?

Bender: Maybe.

Leela: C'mon Bender. We've got to go check out his project.

Bender: Alright! We get to be nosy!

(Leela and Bender walked into the professor's lab to find him and Fry working with the Holoshed 2.0. Fry looked rough. His hair was a mess, his shirt was stained, his jeans were ripped and his jacket was nowhere to be found)

Leela: Fry! You look horrible!

Fry: (shocked) Leela! No, you need to go! You can't be here!

Leela: But Fry, I'm concerned!

Fry: Oh sure, now you're concerned. There have been plenty of other times when you could have been, but you never were. Now all of a sudden you show an interest in my life.

Leela: Fry-

Fry: No, Leela! You need to go.

Leela: But why?

Fry: I don't want you to see this.

Leela: (confused) I don't get it.

Fry: What's not to get? Idon't want youto see it until it's finished. Ok?

Leela: ....FINE!

(Leela stormed out, leaving Bender behind with the professor and Fry)

Bender: Sheesh Fry! What's your deal? You've never yelled at Leela like that before.

Fry: (sadly) I know.

Bender: So, what's you deal?

Fry: I just don't want her to be snooping around trying to find out what i'm up to.

Bender: Why?

Fry: God Bender, you aren't any better than she is!

Bender: Hey, I think I have a right to know, being you're best friend and all.

Fry: And Leela is the one-eyed mutant that I’m in love with, but I didn't cave and tell her!

Bender: (angrily) You know what Fry?! You can just bite my shiny metal ass!

(Bender stormed out, mocking Leela's exit. Fry stood in shock that his friends would be so nervy. He shook his head and returned to the Holoshed 2.0)

Fry: They don't need to know a thing.

(three months had gone by and Fry was still working on his project. Leela wasn't talking to him and neither was Bender. The only time any of them spoke to each other was when they went on a delivery, and even thenit wasn't much. One morning, Fry walked into the conference room, a look of anger on his face.)

Fry: (shouting) What's going on!? What did I do this time to where you guys won't even talk to me?

Leela: What do you think Fry? You've been so selfish and rude ever since you got involved in your project.

Bender: Yeah! It's getting to the point where I'm about to throw you out of my apartment!

Fry: But what did I do?

Leela: You yelled at me!

Bender: And me!

Leela: and you honestly expect us to ignore that?

Fry: (calmly) Well, no...I...I guess not.

Leela: Exactly. Now, what can't we see your project?

Fry: Well, two reasons. One, it's a surprise. And two, its not completely ready yet.

Bender: Then when will it be ready?

Fry: I don't know. The professor keeps changing things and fixing knobs and other funny looking things...so it's taking longer than I thought. But don't worry Bender, you'll be the first to see it.

Bender: Score!

Leela: Hey! Why does he go first?

Fry: (hesitantly) Because Leela, it's....a surprise....for.....you.

Leela: (shocked) A...surprise....for me?

Fry: Yes Leela. For you.

Leela: I don't get it. Is this your was of paying me back for buying you that taco?

Fry: What? Oh, that, no. I'm doing this because I want to. Nor reason in particular. I just think you deserve something special. Ya know, for all the hard work you do.

Bender: (whispering) Suck up.

Leela: You sure there's no real reason you're doing this?

Fry: I promise.

Leela: Well....ok, I'll wait. But don't keep me waiting too long. You know how i get when I'm kept waiting.

Fry: Well, no promises there, but I'll try. After all, it's not easy putting together a holograpic display.

(Another two months had gone by and Fry was still working on his project for Leela. Because he was so busy, he'd lost weight, and a lot of it too. He hadn't got a full night's sleep in almost four months and it showed under his eyes. Everyone was worried about him, especially Leela)

Leela: Fry, you look exhausted.

Fry: No, I'm fine.

Leela: Fry, you're gonna end up killing yourself if you don't take a break.

Fry: I'm fine, Leela.

Leela: Fry...(she reached out and grabbed his hand)...listen to me. You need to take a break.

Fry: (taking a deep breath) Ok, Leela.

Leela: Good. C'mon, go lay on the couch. Take a nap, I'll make sure no one bothers you.

Fry: Thanks, but no sneaking off to see the project.

Leela: (sincerely) I won't. I'll be right here.

(Fry laid his head down on a pillow and was out like a light within two minutes. His steady breathing and light snoring caught Leela's attention. She turned and stared at him. He looked like an angel sleeping there. Leela took two steps towards him and knelt down beside him. She slowly reached out and touched his face, carefully caressing it like porcelain. She moved her hand down his cheek and along his jaw line. She then reached up and ran her fingers through his hair, realizing just how soft and well kept it was. Fry began to stir, and Leela quickly pulled back her hand. After a moment, he stopped and Leela got to her feet and took her seat in a chair across the room)

(it was almost eleven pm when fry woke up. The room was dark, but a small corner of the room was lit by the lights of the city. Fry slowly sat up and rubbed his eyes.)

Fry: (mumbling) Where is everyone?

(he stood up and turned on a light and found Leela sound asleep in a chair. He walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder.)

Fry: Leela?

(startled, Leela woke up and punched Fry in the nose.)

Fry: OW! What was that for?!

Leela: (rubbing her eye) Fry? Oh my god! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! Here, let me help!

(Leela ran into the kitchen to grab a towel. Fry's nose was bleeding. She got the towel wet and ran back to the living room and gently sat in on Fry's nose.)

Fry: Thanks.

Leela: No problem. I really am sorry. I had a nightmare and when you touched me, it freaked me out.

Fry: Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.

Leela: Don't worry about me. How are you feeling?

Fry: (sarcastically) You mean before or after the busted nose?

Leela: (giggling) Before, silly.

Fry: Well, I felt fine. I'm still a little tired though.

Leela: You don't look as tired, so that's good.

Fry: Yeah. I could use some coffee though.

Leela: I'll get it. Don't you move!

(Leela hurried off into the kitchen. Fry heard some rustling and things falling. He just shook his head and laughed. A moment later, Leela returned carrying two cups of coffee.)

Leela: Here you go, Sir. One cup of coffee.

Fry: Why thank you miss.

Leela: So, how's the project coming along?

Fry: Great. It's almost finished. Just a week or two more to go.

Leela: (quietly) Hey...Fry?

Fry: What?

Leela: This may just be a coincidence...but it just so happens that my birthday is next week.

Fry: You don't say? (thinking) Her birthday? That's it!

Leela: Yeah, it's next Wednesday.

Fry: Then this project is no longer just a surprise. It'll be your birthday gift.

Leela:(smiling) Really?

Fry:(also smiling) Really really.

(Fry worked for hours at a time for three straight days. Leela never saw him in those days. He didn't go on deliveries, didn't come out to get a drink, she wasn't even sure if he went to the bathroom.)

Bender: That Fry is being a selfish moron again.

Leela: No, he's not. He's working diligently on something he cares about.

Bender: You're only saying that because its for you.

Leela: That's not true! He really does care about this project!

Bender: Whatever, Big Boots. I'm thinking I should go in there and destroy that damn Holoshed so Fry will come hang out with me again.

Leela: Bender, that's incredibly selfish of you!

Bender: That's just the Bender way.

Leela: Bender, as your captain I forbid you to bother Fry or to go near the Holoshed!

Bender: But Fry-

Leela: Fry will come back to you when he's finished with his project! You should be happy for him! He's found a new hobby!

Bender: But that hobby doesn't involve me, so naturally I'm angry!

Leela: Bender! Fry loves this project and you get to see it before I do so why are you complaining? Besides, he's almost-

(Bender and Leela jumped at the sound of Fry's scream. They turned around just in time to see Fry come running in, a look of excitement on his face.)

Fry: Leela! Bender! I did it! I actually did something right!

Leela: Alright!

Bender: Congratulations Buddy! So when do I see it?

Fry: In just a few minutes. The professor is saving the final touches in its memory right now.

Leela: I'm happy for you, Fry. You found the one thing you liked doing and you didn't give up half way through.

Fry: I know! I'm just as impressed. I guess you do crazy things when you're in love.

Leela: Wait, what?

Fry: Uh...I mean...I really gotta go.

(Fry turned and ran through the door back to the Holoshed)

Leela: Bender, did he just say what I think he said?

Bender: You mean you didn't know?

Leela: Well I had a hunch after the opera.

Bender: My god Leela, you're about as dumb as Fry!

Leela: Hey!

Bender: Why do you think he went though all that trouble of getting the Robot Devil's hands to play the holophoner, you ding dong?

Leela: I didn't know! I thought he was just trying to-

Bender: Listen here, mutant girl. As Fry's best friend, I can tell you one thing about him that you probably never knew. You are the only person he talks about. Everyday when he would come home, all I would hear is "Leela's so great" and "I wish Leela would stop rejecting me" and "Leela's so beautiful". It was starting to get on my nerves! Why do you keep rejecting him anyway?

Leela: I don't know. Fry's just...not my type.

Bender: How would you know? You won't even give him a chance.

Leela: Alright, Bender. Don't you think you've picked on me enough for one day?

Bender: No. I could go on for a little while longer.

Leela: Well I don’t want to hear it. We've been arguing for a few hours now, and I'm ready to stop now. If you or anyone else needs me, I'll be in the angry dome!

(Leela turned her back and walked away, leaving Bender alone.)

Bender: Stupid mutants.

Fry: (VO) Hey Bender! Come in here!

Bender: Oh boy! I get to see Fry's project!

(the clanky sounds of Bender's foot caps were the only things Fry could hear as bender came running down the hallway.)

Bender: Oh boy, oh boy!

Fry: (giggling) Calm down, Bender.

Bender: I'm sorry, I'm just so excited!

Fry: I know, I know. Go ahead and step inside. I'll be in in a sec.

(Bender walked inside while Fry went to the keypad to turn the Holoshed on. He then continues to follow Bender inside.)

Fry: Ok, you ready to see my project?

Bender: You bet! This is gonna be fun on a bun!

Fry: Ok, here we go. (clears his throat) Run: Project Fry.

Bender: (shocked)...Oh...your...God.

Leela: I'm not sure I get it Amy.

Amy: What's not to get? All you have to do is pick the cup up, bring it to your mouth and-

Leela: no, Amy, I know how to drink coffee. I was talking about how I don't get why I never noticed Fry's feelings before.

Amy: To be honest Leela, you aren't exactly the most observant person. You're always too busy looking for Mr. Right that you've completely eliminated Fry as a possibility.

Leela: I didn't eliminate him! I just...chose to overlook him.

Amy: But why?

Leela: Amy, don' t you see everything that's wrong with him? He's selfish, immature, a slob, lazy-

Amy: Ugh. Geez Leela, you're just too picky. Can't you see anything other than the bad?

Leela: I don't know...

Amy: Try! C'mon, what are some good qualities to Fry?

Leela: Well...I guess he's a good friend.

Amy: Ok, that's a stat. What else?

Leela: He's funny, sweet, kind, energetic, eager...he's always ready for a little adventure. He's caring and sensitive, determined-

Amy: Uh...Leela?

Leela: And his boyish charm is to die for.

Amy: Leela?

Leela: And he's so angelic when he sleeps.

Amy: Lee-

Leela: And his hair is just so soft and beautiful.

(Leela stopped and looked up. Realizing all that she had just said, she began to blush)

Amy: (giggling) I knew it.

Leela: Oh god, I'm so embarrassed.

Amy: Hey, hey, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. I won't tell anyone.

Leela: (hiding her face) So, what do i do?

Amy: Have you told Fry about your feelings?

Leela: WHAT? No, of course not. These feelings are brand new. They aren't even a week old yet.

Amy: Well, don't you think you ought to tell him?

Leela: I suppose. But, I don't know when the best time would be.

Amy: Why don't you tell him when he shows you his project?

Leela: Yeah. I guess I’ll do it then.

Amy: Good luck!

(It was the Monday before Leela's birthday. Fry, Leela, and bender had just got back from a delivery to Cineplex 14 and were lounging in the Planet Expresses living room. Fry and Leela were sitting on the couch while Bender was sitting at the table playing PacMan with Hermes)

Fry: Leela, about what I said the other day...I understand if you never want to talk to me again.

Leela: Fry-

Fry: And I understand if you don't want to see the project.

Leela: But Fry, i'm not angry with you.

Fry: You-you're not?

Leela: No. Why would I be?

Fry: I...I don't know. I just thought you might be.

Leela: Well, I’m not. If anything, I'm happy you told me.

Fry: You are? But why?

Leela: (smiling) You'll find out soon enough.

(Leela reached out and laced her fingers between Fry's. He smiled at her and she smiled at him)

Fry: You have a surprise for me too?

Leela: (slyly) Maybe, maybe not. You're making me wait, so now it's your turn.

Fry: (playfully) That's not fair!

Leela: Oh, I think it is. Naturally, as your captain, anything I say goes.

Fry: Yes captain.

(The two of them sat on the couch and laughed. Fry gently squeezed Leela's hand and turned his head to continue watching TV. There was a commercial on for Bachelor Chow. Leela looked down at their hands sitting comfortably within each other. She let a small smile form on her face before turning her head to the television.)

Fry: So, have you thought about what you wanna do for your birthday?

Bender: Oh, I know! Let's go get hammered!

Leela: (ignoring Bender's outburst) No actually, I haven't.

Fry: Well, is there anything you wanted to do?

Leela: I haven't really thought about it. I guess, now that you mention it, it would be nice to have a small get-together.

Fry: Then a small get-together you'll get. Just leave everything to me!

Leela: Fry, you don't have to plan a party for me. you've already done so much with the project.

Fry: Leela, you deserve a party, so that's what you'll get. Don't you worry about me when it's almost you're special day.

Leela: Well...oh, alright. But I don't want anything fancy. Just a small party with all my co-workers...except Zoidberg.

Fry: You got it! Bender will bake you a cake and I'll take care of the rest.

Leela: (sincerely) You're the best, Fry.

Fry: Hey, it's what I do.

(It was Wednesday afternoon and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The sky was blue with no coulds in sight. The wind was warm as the sun hung happily in the sky. The atmosphere for a party was perfect. Fry had gotten up extra early that day so he could devorate the Planet Express in honor of Leela's birthday. he had hung balloons of every color in every room, streamers hung from the ceiling, flowing in the wind. The table was covered in a pink table cloth and a huge banner hung behind the table saying "Happy Birthday Leela" in big blue letters. Bender was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on Leela's cake when the guests started to arrive.)

Amy: Wow! Check it out!

Hermes: Well done, Fry!

Amy: Yeah, nice job!

P.F. Everything looks fantastic.

Fry: Thanks everyone.

Amy: So, where's Leela?

Fry: She'll be here soon. I told her to come a little later so everyone else can see the look on her face when she see's all this.

Hermes: She's sure to love it.

Fry: I hope. Bender's working on the cake, so that should be done soon.

P.F: What about the rest of the food?

Fry: Oh, right. It's in the kitchen. Come help me get it out to the table.

Amy: Right behind you!

(Amy followed Fry into the kitchen and returned seconds later carrying two bowls full of chips and pretzles. Fry was behind her carrying several cans of Slurm)

Fry: There. Leela asked for a small party, and that's what she's getting. The pizza should get here after Leela shows up. Hermes, I'm leaving you in charge of the music.

Bender: Cake's finished!

(the cake was tall and very well devorated. it had purple icing and white boardering around the edges. Written in pink icing along the sides was "Happy Birthday Leela! By: Bender, the greatest.")

Fry: Nice job, Bender. Leela will love it.

Bender: I know.

Fry: (looking out window) Leela's coming! Everyone get ready to see the look on her face!

Bender: (opening his chest and pulling out a camera) Way ahead of you!

Leela: (thinking) Well, here goes nothing...

(she rang the P.E. doorbell and stood outside. She was wearing her usual attire and had little Nibbler by her side. Fry opened the door.)

Fry: Happy Birthday Leela!

Leela: Thanks Fry.

Fry: Come on in. Everyone's waiting upstairs.

(Fry led Leela up to the party room)

Leela: (stunned) Oh my god, Fry! It's amazing!

Bender: (takes a picture) One more for the photo album!

Leela: Fry, you did all this for me?

Fry: Yep. I got up at six this morn-

(before Fry could finish his sentence, Leela threw her arms around him. Fry stood in a stupor, but slowly wrapped his arms around her, returning the hug)

Leela: (whispering) Thank you.

Fry: Don't mention it.

Bender: (taking another picture) Aw, thats cute. Now come on meat bags. let's party!

Fry: Ok, Leela, you go enjoy the party. (turns to leave)

Leela: Wait, where are you going?

(the doorbell rings)

Fry: The pizza's here.

(Hours had gone by, and the party had died down. Hermes and the professor left [although i'm not sure where the professor would have gone, considering he lives at the planet express...hm...oh right, sorry, back to the story] and Amy was saying her goodbyes. It was almost one AM when Bender finally left, leaving Fry and Leela alone)

Leela: I had a great time tonight, Fry.

Fry: Me too. I'm glad you had fun.

Leela: Yeah, I did have a lot of fun. Thanks again for everything.

Fry: No problem. I'd do anything to see you happy.

Leela: Well you did do a good job making me happy.

Fry: And i know what will make you even happier.

Leela: What's that?

Fry: My project.

Leela: I get to see it now?

Fry: Yep. Bender nearly fainted when he saw it.

Leela: Really?

Fry: Yep. So I know you're gonna love it.

Leela: Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!

(Fry took Leela's hand and directed her towards the professors lab)

Fry: Go on in, Leela. I just have to set it up.

(Leela walked into the Holoshed while Fry stood outside and turned it on. He then went inside, closed, the door, walked up behind Leela and took her hand)

Fry: Are you ready?

Leela: I'm ready.

Fry: Run: Project Fry.

(The room came to life and what appeared to be a beautiful horizon soon appeared to be a tacky floral wall paper and a blue chair appeared.)

Voice: System failure.

Fry: WHAT! NO! This...this is so unfair! All those months of work for THIS!

Leela: Fry, calm down!

Fry: No! This isn't right! there was suppose to be a meadow an-and a waterfall just in that corner and now its gone! (crying) all my work is gone! My one chance of proving myself to you...gone.

(Fry began to cry hard into his hands. Leela stared at him. This wasn't how her angel was suppose to look. Instinctively, Leela went over to him and put her hand on his shoulder to try to calm him down.)

Leela: Fry, don't be upset. Everything's going to be ok.

Fry: (sobbing) No it's not. I've lost everything.

Leela: That's not true. You haven't lost me. I'm still here.

Fry: But aren't you upset?

Leela: Upset, no. Disappointed, a little. But anyone who puts this much time into something just to impress me catches my attention. Besides, you've already outdone yourself by setting up the party. I'm already thankful for that.

Fry: You mean it?

Leela: Of course.

Fry: I'm so sorry about the project. I know you would have loved it. I'm just upset that I wasted all that time.

Leela: Fry, you didn't waste your time with anything. You learned how to operate one of the most complex machines in this universe. I'd say that counts for something.

Fry: But the machine malfunctioned!

Leela: Well, you should have expected that. The professor put it together.

Fry: Yeah, i guess you're right. I'm sorry to keep you waiting. I should have showed you before Bender.

Leela: I'm not going to argue with you on that one.

Fry: I'm sorry for this Leela. I was so sure that this gift would...(sighs) I'm not sure I should tell you.

Leela: Fry, you can tell me anything.

Fry: Ok, but you have to promise not to be too suprised.

Leela. Deal.

Fry: Well, alright. I made this project for you because I wanted to try and show my feelings for you. i thought that maybe if you was how dedicated and determined I was, you'd maybe stop rejecting me. After i finished the project, I was so positive that when you saw it, you'd come to the realization that i'd do anything for you . And i thought that maybe if you realized that, then you'd see that I really do care about you.

Leela: Fry, I actually have a confession to make. This may come as some sort of a shock. To be completely honest, after the opera, even after everything I saw, I still wasn't convinced that you could be the one for me. I never even thought about it. Then, the other day when you more or less said you loved me, i felt as if I had just woken up from the worst nightmare i've ever had.

Fry: Nightmare?

Leela: When you said that, it was like you were my knight in shining armor coming to take me away from a world where no one cared about me. And the other night when you were asleep on the couch, I just couldn't help but stare at how beautiful you looked.

Fry: I thought I felt someone touching me. It was you wasn't it?

Leela: Maybe.

Fry: Hm. I see.

Leela: Anyway, the other day, I was talking to Amy and I just don't know what came over me. I just started going on and on and on about all the things i liked about you and I realized then just how I felt about you. It was then I realized that i'd been such a prude for rejecting you...and i'm sorry. But-

Fry: Leela, you don't have to say anymore. You've said enough.

Leela: But-

(Fry made his way over to Leela and gently pressed his lips against her cheek.)

Fry: Happy Birthday Leela.

(Fry turned around and left Leela standing alone in the Holoshed. Leela stood with her hand lightly touching the spot where Fry had kissed her.)

Leela: (thinking)Why did he leave?(calling after him) Wait Fry!

Leela: (begging) Fry, please, come back. Was it something I said?

Fry: (stopping) Leela, you just admitted your feelings for me.

Leela: In a round about way, yes.

Fry: I've been waiting to hear that for so long, but now that you tell me...I'm just not sure if this is what I really want.

Leela: What are you talking about Fry? You've been chasing me for years! How can you say you aren't sure if this is what you want?

Fry: I'm sorry Leela. I'm done chasing after you.

Leela: How...how can you say this to me? Look me in the eye and tell me why this is happening!

Fry: I'm sorry Leela. People who want happy endings have to write their own.

Leela: Fry...

Voice: Leela! Don't listen to him!

Leela: Huh? Who said that?

Voice: It's me! The real Fry!

Leela: What do you mean the 'real' Fry?

Voice: Leela, listen to me! The holoshed malfunctioned while you were inside it. The Fry you're talking to is a fake! He's a hologram!

Fry: Liar! Don't make this any more complicated that what it has to be!

Voice: Don't you tell me what to do!

Leela: What's going on?!

Fry: Leela, ignore him. Listen to me, I'm the real Fry.

Fry 2: (entering the room) No, I am!

Fry 1: Don't lie to her!

Fry 2: I'm not lying to her! I would never lie to her!

Fry 1: Yes you would because you're the fake!

Leela: STOP!

(Fry 1 and 2 stood and stared at Leela. She was crying, her arms at her sides, her fists clenched tight. It was obvious she was upset and incredibly angry.)

Leela: I don't know which one of you is the real Fry, but I'mgoing to be the one to find out!

(Leela grabbed a cup of unfinished Slurm and dumped its contents over the Fry's heads. To her amazement, Fry 1 began to fade and spark)

Fry 1: You haven't seen the last of me!

(Fry 1 soon faded away, Leaving Leela and the real Fry standing together. Leela was taking sharp, deep breaths, trying to calm herself down.)

Fry: Leela, you did it!

Leela: Fry! It's really you!

(Leela jumped at him, giving him the biggest and tightest hug he'd ever recieved.)

Fry: (choking) Uh...Leela...can't...breathe!

Leela: Oh! (lets him go) Sorry.

Fry: (rubbing his neck) I'm glad you're ok.

Leela: Fry, what happened?

Fry: I don't know. All i do know is that I went to go to the bathroom after you told me your feelings. That's why I walked out, by the way. Next thing I know, I see myself being chased by you. Well, the holographic me. So I decided to follow you guys and  when I heard the hateful things he said to you, I had to stop him.

Leela: This is all too weird. I thought the professor said the holograms wouldn't come to life?

Fry: That's what I thought too. It was fine until I showed the project to Bender.

Leela: Wait a minute, Fry! That's it!

Fry: What is?

Leela: Bender!

Fry: What about him?

Leela: Remember when his antenna caused problems with your tv?

Fry: Wait, you don't think-

Leela: Exactly! Bender's antenna must have messed with the frequency of the holoshed when you showed him your project!

Fry: Causing my project to get deleted!

Leela: But that still doesn't explain the hologram of you.

Fry: I was thinking that. I didn't make him.

Leela: Then where did he come from?

(The next morning, Fry and Leela went to work early to explain what happened the previous night and to try and get some answers from the Professor.)

Professor: Oh my. Stuff like this always happens.

Fry: Professor, I demand to know where this fake Fry came from.

P.F: Hm...the only logical explanation that immediately comes to mind is Bender's memory chip.

Leela: Wait, so your saying the Holoshed mixed with Bender's memory chip and created a holographic image of Fry?

P.F: Absolutely correct. Then when his antenna messed up the frequency, the hologram became lifelike and began to toil with your emotions.

Fry: That bastard.

P.F: Anyway, as long as you two are ok, I'd like to go find the damn robot who destroyed my machine. Excuse me.

(the professor left in a hurry to search for Bender)

Fry: I'm glad he didn't hurt you, Leela. I don't know what I would do if something happened to you.

Leela: That's so sweet, Fry.

Fry: And listen...if you really meant those things you said about me...then maybe you'd like to go out to dinner tomorrow night?

Leela: (smiling) Of course.

(Leela reached her hand out and held it in mid air. Fry realized what Leela wanted and placed his hand in hers.)

Fry: So, what do we do now?

Leela: Anything we want. This is our story now. Whatever happens, we're in this together.

(Fry smiled and wrapped his arm around Leela's waist, pulling her close to him. Leela relaxed her head on his shoulder. They were together at last. And together, they stared out the window to watch the sun rise, symbolizing the start of a brand new adventure.)
