The Time Travel Factor

Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter‘s apartment
Pasadena California:

Dr. Sheldon Cooper was working on his latest project that would hopefully win him a Nobel Prize. He had spent months working on it and two years putting the plans together. He had other ideas that he considered brilliant: fish-nightlights, he made those by taking the luminous DNA out of Jelly Fish and put them into goldfish, he also had an idea for a bulk feminine hygiene company with glow-in-the-dark tampons. Both ideas he got from spending time with his neighbor Penny. Although he thought they were brilliant, his friends didn’t have the same positive attitude about it, his friend Leonard even called his mother telling her that he had lost it. But this time will be different, he thought smiling, I’ll show them, I’ll show them all! This time Sheldon had invented a time machine, one that could move through time and space. And it didn’t, as Penny said about the replica he and his friends bought, “look like something Elton John would ride in the everglades,”

“It’s done!” he said after completing the finishing touches. “Leonard! Leonard come here!”

Leonard came out of his room and sighed when he saw the time machine. “Oh no, not this again.”

“Yes this again. You call Howard and Rajh and I’ll go get Penny.”

“Wait Sheldon I don’t think-”

But he was already out the door.

Sheldon didn’t have to go far to get to Penny’s, she lived right across the hall after all. He took about 10 steps before he was at the door and he knocked. “Penny,” knock, knock, knock “Penny,” knock, knock, knock “Penny,” knock, knock, knock “Penny,”

Penny opened the door and sighed. “Sheldon, honey, I told you it’s a small apartment you only have to knock once.”

“I will remember that next time, now come on.” he said grabbing her arm.

“Why?” she asked pulling away.

“Uh…Leonard is dying.”

“What? Oh my God!”

She ran into the apartment and Sheldon smirked.

“Sheldon, what is going on here?” Penny asked angrily as she watched Leonard talk on the phone.

“Okay, he’s not really dying. I just said that to get you to come over here.”

“What? Why did you say that? You could of asked me differently.”

“Penny, I have an IQ of 187, if there was another way to get you to come over here don’t you imagine I would of thought of it?”

“What’s wrong with ‘Penny can you come over for a minute?’”

Sheldon thought about it before nodding. “Huh, I suppose that would of worked.”

Penny just shook her head. “Look what do you want?”

“He wants to show us his time machine.” Leonard said to Howard on the phone. When Penny heard him she shook her head beginning to walk out.

“No way, I’m out of here.”

Sheldon quickly picked up his Obi Wan Kenobi Light Saber and blocked the door. “None shall pass.”

“Get out of my way Sheldon, I don’t want to see your stupid time machine.”

“Yes you do, you want to see the time machine.” he said imitating Obi Wan.

“Okay, Luke Skywalker, I’m gonna try this again: get out of my way!”

“Excuse me but this is Obi Wan Kenobi’s Light Saber, not Luke Skywalker’s.”

“I don’t care! Let me go home!”

“You don’t want to go home,” he said waving his hand, “You want to see the time machine.”

“Penny, you better sit down or he’ll try to blow up your head with his mind.”

She sighed and took a seat on the couch. “Fine I’ll stay.”

“That’s right you’ll stay.”

Penny glared at him before he walked over to the kitchen and checked the calendar.

“What are you checking?”

“I think it may be Penny’s time of the month. Remember? I marked the calendar for future reference.”

Before Leonard could respond Howard and Rajh walked in the door.

“Okay we’re here,” Rajh said, “What’s the-” he stopped mid sentence when he saw Penny.

“Still cant talk to me unless your drunk, can you?”

Rajh just shook his head. Howard walked over and sat down next to her.

“See a Penny, pick her up, and all the day you’ll have good luck.”

She stared at him before pointing, “Sit over there.”

“Okay, lets all pay attention.” Sheldon said, “I have perfected my time machine and we are going to travel into the future.”

He walked over to the machine, that was only the size of and small end table and put his hand on the switch. “Ready?”

They all shook their heads and Sheldon pulled the switch. There was a large flash, then they were gone.

1000 years later: January 7th 3009
Planet Express Delivery Company
New, New York City:

“Aw come on Leela, please?”

Delivery boy Phillip J. Fry was following his captain Trunga Leela through the Planet Express hanger as she made her way to the lounge.

“For the last time Fry: you cannot have a drinking contest with the auto pilot.”

“But why not?” he wined.

“Because last time we had to take you to the hospital to treat you for alcohol poisoning and had to get your stomach pumped!”

“Plus the auto pilot kicked you ass!” the robot Bender added laughing.

“Shut up Bender.” Fry said.

Leela opened the door to the lounge and there was a gust of wind and a bright light. When they opened their eyes, or in Leela’s case eye, 5 people were standing in the lounge with a piece of machinery.

The first man was tall and skinny, had short brown hair, and light blue Superman shirt with a brown polo shirt under it. The second had curly brown hair, glasses, a green shirt with a grey sweatshirt and a army green jacket. The third had a sweater vest over a turtleneck shirt with a bowl hair cut and sideburns, and the fourth had dark skin, black hair, a collard shirt with a jacket. Then there was a woman with blond hair, a purple tank top and black shorts on.

“Who the hell are you nerds?” Bender asked.

They all looked around at their surroundings and the first man got a closer look at Bender. “Howard is this your doing?”

The man with the bowl hair cut shook his head. “No.”

“Uh-what’s going on here?” Fry asked curiously.

“Excuse me,” the first man said “what year is this?”

“3009”

“3009? Yes! My time machine works!”

“Not anymore.” the blond woman said.

“No!” he said when he saw the smoking piece of machinery. “My time machine! It‘s ruined!”

“Now how are we gonna get home?” the woman asked.

“Well…never.”

“Sheldon!” she said running after him, “I am going to kill you! And not like ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna kill you. LOL’ I mean I am going to stop your heart! Okay? This is worse than the time you broke into my apartment in the middle of the night and cleaned it, this is worse than when you showed up sick at the Cheesecake factory and started infecting my entire station, this is worse that when you went to the supermarket with me and then talked to me about tampons!”

“Leonard, help!”

The man with glasses restrained the woman. “Penny relax.”

“Relax? We’re stuck in the future and can’t get home! How am I suppose to relax?!”

“Uh, excuse me?” Leela said.

Everyone in the room stopped and looked at them.

“Who are you people?”

“Oh, right,” the man with glasses said extending his hand, “I’m Leonard, this is Penny, Sheldon, Rajh and Howard.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Leela, this is Fry and this is Bender.”

They all shook hands and Sheldon motioned to his time machine. “Is there any way we could borrow a time machine? Or buy one?”

Fry, Leela and Bender looked at each other before laughing. “There’s no such thing as a time machine!”

“What?” Sheldon asked, “I thought this was the year 3009.”

“Yeah, but we don’t have time machines.” Fry said, “all we have are robots, space ships, Bavarian cream dogs that are self microwavable, suicide booths…” he continued listing everything they had in future and finally got to the end of his list, “head’s in jars and mutants that live in the sewers. But no time machines. No sir-ee.”

“Wow,” was all they managed to say.

“So how are we gonna get home?” Penny asked.

“Well, either you find a way to fix that prehistoric piece of junk,” Bender began, “Or you are boned.”

“Well that’s what we’ll have to do.” Howard said.

“But this took me months to put together.” Sheldon sighed.

“Well maybe the professor can help you.” Fry said, “He’s our boss and my nephew.”

“You’re nephew?”

“Yeah, I’m from the year 1999.”

“Really?” Penny said. “that’s amazing.”

“Well how did you get here?” Leonard asked.

“I was frozen in one of those thingy’s.”

“Cryo-tubes?”

“Sure, why not?”

“Anyway,” Leela said, “ You all are gonna need a place to stay, so how about this-the guys will stay with Fry and Bender, and Penny you can stay with me.”

“That’s perfect.” Leonard said.

A few hours later everyone had gathered at Fry and Bender’s apartment. Everyone had met the Professor, Amy, Hermes and Dr. Zoidberg and Sheldon asked Professor Farnsworth about the time machine. “It will take sometime, but we might be able to fix it.” he said. Afterwards the five of them joined Fry, Leela, Bender and Amy for pizza and beer. They all talked for about two hours before the girls decided to get going. Howard had offered to walk them out and all the guys were waiting for him to come back.

“So Fry, what’s going on with you and Leela?” Leonard asked. “When Penny asked if you were dating you both seemed uncomfortable.”

Fry sighed and nodded, “Yeah, you see I’ve been in love with Leela since the day I came to the future but she never gives me a chance. Now I don’t know what to do, she’s dating some guy named Scott.”

Before Leonard could say anything Howard walked inside with a black eye.

“What happened?” Sheldon asked.

“Don’t use a ‘neg’ on Leela.”

“What’s a neg?” Fry asked.

“A ‘neg’ is a negative compliment that throws a pretty woman off her game. Next time I try, I’m gonna need a wingman.”

“Uh, no, you’re gonna need a Paramedic” Bender said.

“So what are we all talking about?” Howard said sitting down.

“Fry’s having some girl trouble.” Sheldon said.

“Really?”

“Yeah,” Fry said “I mean, I love her with all my heart but she wont even give me a chance. What am I suppose to do?”

“Fry, love is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, and it will only end when she falls in your arms…or hits you with the pepper spray.”

Fry looked at him before shaking his head. Psycho.

“So who’s the girl?” Howard asked.

“It’s Leela.”

“Leela? Oh, that might not be such a great idea.”

“Why not?”

“You two work at the same company and when it comes to sexual harassment laws, I’m kind of a self taught expert.”

“Howard, I’m not gonna walk into work and ask her to strip naked and dance for me.”

“Oh! Then you’re probably okay.”

Fry stared at him for a few seconds before turning to everyone else. “Anyone else besides Captain Perv over here?”

“What if something-” Rajh started.

“Whoa, you can talk?!” Bender shouted.

“Yes,” Sheldon said, “He just cant speak to attractive women unless he’s drunk.”

“Oh, you and me both brother.”

“Bender you cant function unless you’re drunk. Otherwise you go on sober rampages.” Fry said.

“Anyway,” Rajh continued, “What if something was to happen to this Scott guy so he was no longer involved with Leela?”

“Wait, are you suggesting we kill Scott?” Fry asked. Everyone looked at him and he put his hands up in defense, “I’m not saying ‘no’.”

“I got it covered buddy.” Bender said pulling a gun out of his chest cabinet.

“No, forget it,” Fry said, “She’ll hate me.”

“Then what are you gonna do?”

“I’ll just pray to God, and to what ever gods you pray to Rajh, just hoping she’ll finally give me a chance.”

The weeks went by and the Professor and Sheldon began working on blue prints for the time machine. While the Professor worked on that Fry, Leela and Bender showed Leonard, Penny, Howard, Rajh, and Sheldon (when he wasn’t working) around the futuristic New York City. They took the ship out and showed them around the universe and invited them on deliveries. While everyone seemed to be having fun Fry was becoming more depressed. Leela and Scott were even serious and Leela spent most of her free time with him. Fry talked to Leonard about his problem and he suggested that he try to become smarter, since Leela rejected him because he wasn’t that intelligent. Leonard, Howard, and Rajh offered to tutor him: Howard was teaching him how to speak French, Leonard was going to help him with his math and English skills, and Rajh was going to help him with science and history. He studied for two hours with each of them everyday and actually picked it up quickly. They told him the key was to forget about Leela while he worked. Like Howard said, when he was 18 there was this girl in his class he liked and his GPA fell from a 4.6 to a 1.3. “She was sleeping with you?” Fry asked when he brought it up. “No, I just wasted a lot of time thinking what it would be like if she was.” was his answer.

Fry was sitting on the couch in the lounge studying with Howard one afternoon while Penny was sitting next to him reading a magazine, Leonard and Rajh were working on more stuff for him to study, Sheldon and the Professor were working, Amy was repairing the ship and Bender was in the hanger ‘helping’ her. While Fry was doing well with his work, he was having a lot of trouble today. Leela was in the locker room with Scott, Doing God knows what. he thought

“Forget it Howard, I can’t concentrate.” Fry said his hands up to his head, “I can hear Leela and Scott.”

“Just ignore it. You’re doing great, this is gonna pay off, trust us.”

Fry took a deep breath and stood up looking out the window, “What’s the point? Leela will never love me.”

“Now come on Fry,” Penny said putting a hand on his shoulder. “Cheer up, I bet she’ll realize what a great guy you are.”

“Thanks Penny.”

Fry looked at the door when he heard it open, and Leela stormed out holding a cell phone in her hand.

“Fry look out, I have to use the window.”

She opened it and yelled, “Hey jackass you forgot your stupid cell phone!” before throwing the phone out the window and slamming it shut.

“What’s going on?” Fry asked.

“I’ll tell you what’s going on, that stupid self-centered bastard wrote about our sex life on his webpage.”

She opened the window and screamed, “Drop dead you stupid self-centered bastard!”

She slammed the window again and walked out of the lounge and into the kitchen.

“Wow,” Fry said, “You think I should go talk to her?”

“Yeah, you should,” Howard said, “Hold her, comfort her, and if the moment feels right, see if you can cop a feel.”

“I’m her friend Howard, I’m not going to take advantage of her.”

“So what are you saying? If she begs you to take her right there, right now, you’re just gonna say ‘no’ and walk away?”

“I said I’m her friend, not her gay friend.”

He walked into the kitchen and found Leela stuffing her face with ice cream.

“Hey, I know you probably don’t want to talk-”

“I don’t.” she said her mouth full.

“Okay, I’ll just be out here.” he said walking out.

“Wait,”

“Did you say wait?” he asked turning around.

“Tell me truth Fry, am I a huge moron who always picks giant losers?”

“No,” he lied.

“So, I pick good guys but turn them into losers?”

“Of course not.”

“Well it’s one or the other, which is it?”

“I-uh-you” Fry stuttered.

Leela sighed and sat on the counter. “I really thought Scott was different.”

“Well, what exactly did he write? Not that I need to know the details about…never mind.”

“No, go ahead, everyone else has seen it.”

Leela logged into the computer and pulled up Scott’s webpage. Fry read everything and shook his head. “Well this isn’t so bad. It just shows a woman who’s very passionate and shows her feelings in not so conventional places.”

“Oh God,” Leela said embarrassed.

“Movie theaters, elevators…is Subway the underground train, or sandwich shop?”

“Sandwich shop.”

“Oh…doesn’t that violate the health code?”

“No, we just made out there.”

“Oh…”

She sighed and leaned against the table. “Do you think I over reacted?”

“Well, maybe.”

“Because I do over react sometimes. You think I should go over to Scott’s and apologize?”

“No!” he said. Leela looked at him and he calmed down, “ No, that would be under reacting. I mean, look at all this, betrayal, ugh. He did break the confidential bedroom code. Or in your case the movie theater, elevator…well you know. ”

“You’re right I should just say I’m done with him.”

“Yes you should. Say it.” he said hopefully.

“But I never gave him a chance to explain.” she got up and started making her way to the locker room.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m going over to Scott’s. Fry thank you so much, you helped me realize that this is his own stupid way of saying how much he cares about me.”

“Oh…good for me.” he said mentally kicking himself.

“Bye Fry.” she said walking out.

“Huh,” he said when she was finally gone. “Maybe I am her gay friend.”

“She was mad at him!” Fry said for the 20th time. He had told everyone what happened and they couldn’t believe he screwed it up. This was suppose to be his chance to get Leela to like him. “It was done, the relationship was broken beyond repair and I fixed it!”

“Just relax,” Penny said, “I’m sure that even if they get back together he’ll do something stupid and they’ll break up again.”

“You think so?”

Then Leela opened the door and stared at Fry. “Thank you for your stupid advice!” She screamed at him before slamming the door.

“Wow, amazing” Rajh said, “You managed to screw up the screw up.”

“I’m gonna go talk to her. I’ll see you guys at home.”

“Don’t forget,” Sheldon started, “Halo Night tonight.”

“I wont forget.”

He walked into the kitchen and saw Leela sitting on the table, her legs curled up.

“I’m back.” he said.

“I’m sorry I yelled at you. It’s not your fault.”

“What happened?” he asked sitting on the table next to her.

“Well…I went over to Scott’s to talk to him,”

“Yeah, I know that part.” Fry said.

“But he had already moved on.” she said her voice cracking.

“Really? That was quick.”

“That’s what I said to the woman who answered the door wearing his robe.” she sobbed into his shoulder. Fry carefully put his arm around her and gently rubbed her back.

“How could I be so stupid?” she said muffled in his jacket.

“You’re not stupid.” Fry said.

“Yes I am,”

“No, you’re perfect.”

Leela lifted her head and looked at him. “You really think so, don’t you?”

He just smiled and Leela rested her head back on his shoulder looping her arm through his. “That’s it, I am through with guys like Scott. The macho, good looking, rich guys.”

“Yeah that must get old fast.” Fry said.

“For once I’d just like to go out with a guy who’s nice and fun and honest and who actually cares about me.”

Fry shut his eyes tight and let out a deep breath. “What about me?”

“What about you?” she asked.

“What if you went out with me?”

Leela looked up and wiped her eye. “Are you asking me out?”

“Uh…yes. I am.”

“Wow,” was all she managed to say.

“I was just going off about what you said about the nice guy,”

“Yeah, totally.”

“And I’m honest and fun-”

“Yes.”

Fry looked at her after she lifter her head up again. “Yes what?”

“Yes Fry, I’ll go out with you.”

He just stared at her before finally answering. “Really?”

“Yeah. I mean what have I got to lose?”

Fry smiled and nodded. “Yeah…that’s the spirit.”

Both of them looked the other way as an awkward silence fell over them.

That night after playing Halo, Bender offered to take everyone out for drinks (with Amy’s card). Sheldon stayed behind to work on the time machine more, and Fry stayed with him. He decided he needed to clear his head, since he was having mixed emotions about his date with Leela.

“Sheldon, can I talk to you about something?”

“I suppose.” he sighed.

“Well…I think I’ve made a mistake.”

“I can see that. You had 8 pieces of pizza. That’s not going to sit well with you.”

“No, I mean a mistake with Leela.”

“A mistake involving Leela…you’re gonna have to narrow it down.”

“I don’t think I can go out with her.”

“Then don’t.”

Fry stared at him. “Other people might ask why not.”

“Other people might care.”

“I’m gonna keep talking.”

“As I assumed you would.”

“It’s just…now I’m about to go out with Leela after all these years. But I’m not excited, I’m nauseous.”

“You mean nauseated, that’s grammatically correct.”

“What ever! Sheldon just tell me what I should do.”

“Schrodinger’s cat.”

Rajh had just explained Schrodinger’s cat earlier that day. Fry thought about it and shook his head. “That’s brilliant.”

“You sound surprised.”

“Penny, I’ve got a problem.”

Leela was sitting on the couch in her apartment with Penny thinking about Fry. “You probably know Fry asked me out.”

“Well when he walked back into the lounge he was doing a happy dance.”

“Oh…how sweet. Anyway, I was thinking, if things work out between us and we start dating what will happen to out friendship? I mean, then if things don’t work out I lose my boyfriend and my best friend, and I just can’t lost Fry as a friend.”

“Okay, I got a solution.”

“Really? What?”

“Schrodinger’s cat.”

“Excuse me?”

“Sheldon told me this once. See, in 1935, Erwin Schrodinger placed a cat in a box with a vial of poison. Since no one knew if the vial had broken the cat was seen as both alive and dead.”

“So you’re saying that my relationship with Fry can be seen as both good and bad, and I just have to take a chance to find out if things will work out?”

“Exactly. You have to do what’s right for you. Do you think you could be happy with Fry?”

Leela thought about it for a long time but never answered.

The next night Fry was getting ready for his date with Leela as Sheldon’s words were replaying through his head. Schrodinger’s cat, who knew quantum physics doubled as relationship advice? He finished fixing his tie and picked up his phone and wallet. Well, here’s goes nothing. He walked out in to the living room to find his jacket.

“Hey Bender, where’s my sports coat?”

Bender and everyone turned and looked at him before laughing. His shirt was drenched in sweat and Bender fell on the floor laughing.

“Can you tell I’m sweating?”

“No,” Sheldon said, “in fact the crescent shapes under your arms give you a very sexy look.”

Fry sighed and started taking off his tie.

“How long till your date?”

“45 minutes.”

“Good, that will give you some time for that stench to disappear.”

“Is the cologne too much?”

“Not if you’re the entire New New York Mets.” Bender said.

Fry sighed again and started un buttoning his shirt.

“Fry just relax,” Leonard said, “you two will have a great time.”

“Yeah, yeah you’re right. I’ve got nothing to worry about. We’ll go out, have a nice dinner, talk about things we have in common, I’ll walk her home, probably say something funny or witty, there’s a silence, we both know what’s coming, I lean in, we kiss, it’s a little awkward at first but then I realize she’s kissing me back, and she’s biting my lower lip. I mean she wants me! This is gonna go all the way we’re gonna have sex! Oh my God! Oh my God!”

Everyone stared at him eyes wide.

“Is the sex starting now?” Bender asked.

“I’m having a panic attack!”

“Oh Jeeze, then….calm down!”

At the same time Leela was running franticly around her apartment. “Penny I can’t do this!”

“Yes you can just relax. You and Fry will have a great evening and I bet that everything will work out”

“You think?”

“Listen, I’ve only known you and Fry for about a week, but I can already tell you belong together.”

“Thanks Penny,”

“You’re welcome. Well I’m gonna get going, good luck.”

Penny picked up her purse and opened the door seeing Fry standing there with a bouquet of lily’s.

“Hey Fry,”

“Hi Penny.”

“Leela’s inside.” she placed a hand on his shoulder and mouthed the words “good luck.”

“Thank you,” he replied silently.

Penny closed the door and Fry saw Leela standing near the couch in her backless dark purple dress.

“Hi,”

“Hey,” Fry said, “You look very nice.”

“So do you.”

He held out the flowers. “These are for you.”

“Thank you,”

They stood there for a few seconds in the silence.

“I made a 8:00 reservation.” Fry said.

“Great…lets go.”

Fry helped her with her jacket and she looped her arm through his.

Back at the Robot Arms everyone was sitting around watching TV when Penny walked in. “Fry just picked her up.”

“$10 he screws it up!” Bender said.

“Bender!” Penny yelled.

“What?”

“He’s not gonna screw this up.”

They all stared at her for a few seconds before she answered. “Well I hope he doesn’t screw this up.”

“Poor Fry. He’s probably struggling for the right words and Leela will think he’s an idiot.” Leonard said.

“No, she already thinks that.” Bender said.

Fry and Leela walked into Elzar’s after a short walk and Leela let go of his arm.

“Uh, we have reservations for two.” Fry said to the four armed chef.

“Name?”

“Fry.”

“Oh I’m sorry, you weren’t here, so we gave your table away.”

“What? But we had reservations at 8:00. What time is it now?”

“It’s 8:02.”

“So?”

“So your reservations were at 8:00, not 8:02. Now get out before I call security.”

The two of them walked outside and Fry turned to Leela and sighed. “I am so sorry, I wanted tonight to be perfect.”

“It’s alright, it’s not your fault.” she said reaching for his hand. Fry smiled and looked down the street.

“I got an idea, come on.”

“He will not!”

“He will too!”

“Will not!”

“Will too!”

Bender and Penny were still arguing about if Fry would screw everything up.

“Will you two just cut it out?!” Leonard yelled.

“Yes your arguing is pointless.” Sheldon said, “No matter what happens we will find out when and if he get home.”

“Wait, when and if?” Leonard asked.

“Yes, it could be that liquor and poor judgment on her part could lead to a evening of coitus.”

“Sheldon, neither Fry or Leela are looking for coitus.” Penny said.

“So,” Howard started, “Does that mean Leela’s available for coitus?”

“Can we just stop saying coitus?” Leonard asked.

“Technically that would be coitus interrupted.” Sheldon said.

“Shut up. I’m sure they are going to have a nice dinner, Fry will walk her home and they will probably go out again to strengthen their relationship.”

“Yeah, like in most things in life you practice to get better at them.” Penny said.

“With obvious exceptions.” Sheldon said. Everyone just stared at him with a look that said “What are you talking about?”

“Suicide for example.”

“Oh yeah?” Bender said, “I’ve been a suicide booth at least a dozen times and I’m still alive.”

“Let me rephrase then: humans or any other living creature committing suicide.”

Bender just nodded in response.

“Well it’s not Elzar’s, but this should be fine, right?”

Fry and Leela were sitting at a picnic table in central park with a few bags of food.

“Fry, this is better than Elzar’s.”

They had stopped at the store and picked up some already prepared sandwiches, some cheese and crackers, grapes, and a bottle of wine. They also made a quick trip to Leela’s and picked up a blanket and glasses.

“I mean, it’s such a nice night out, I would rather be out here than inside.”

Fry smiled and poured the wine.

“You know what Fry?”

“What?”

“I’m glad we’re doing this.”

Fry smiled handing her a glass, “So am I.”

“You wanna make a bet?” Bender said standing up looking at everyone.

“Yeah,” Penny said, “$10 he doesn’t screw up and they have a nice night.”

“Second.” Leonard said,

“I bet he’ll screw up.” Bender said, “Sheldon what about you?”

“My bet is on liquor and poor judgment.”

“Okay,” Bender said, “No screw up for Penny and Leonard, screw up for me, and liquor and poor judgment for Sheldon. Howard and Rajh, you in?”

“I’ll put it down on liquor and poor judgment.” Howard said.

“Alright, Rajh?”

He whispered in Howard’s ear. “He says no screw up.”

“Fine, all bets are in, and we’ll find out when he gets home.” Penny said.

“Or if he gets home.” Howard added.

“He’s gonna get home because he’s gonna screw up.”

Hours later Fry and Leela were still talking, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.

“Fry, this has been the best date of my life. Thank you so much.”

“I’m glad you had a nice time.”

“I had a great time.”

Fry stretched out his arms and looked at his watch. “Wow, we’ve been talking for three hours.”

“Really? It doesn’t seem that long.”

“I know,”

Both grew quiet knowing that their date was coming to a end. Fry could tell Leela was disappointed and he finished the small amount of wine in his glass.

“Hey, do you wanna see something cool?”

Leela nodded and Fry grabbed a grape and his glass. “I can get this grape in this glass without touching it.”

“How?”

“Physics.”

He quickly began spinning the glass around the grape slowly lifting it off the table and soon the grape was in the glass rolling around the sides of the glass.

“Wow, cool. Centrifugal force.”

“Actually, it’s centripetal force. See, the force is an outward motion from the glass acting on the grape.”

The grape flew out and went under the table. “Oops,”

Fry put his head under the table and began reaching for the grape. “Now,” he said as he continued looking under the table. “if the force was on the grape itself, then it would be-”

A loud “Bang!” and the table shaking cut him short.

“Fry are you okay?”

“Yeah.” he said still under the table, “I’m fine…hey…did you spill ketchup?”

“We didn’t have any ketchup.”

“Oh…then I’m not fine.”

Leela looked under the table and began to help him up.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”

Fry and Leela were walking up to Fry’s apartment. He had a napkin up to his head and Leela was holding his arm to make sure he didn’t fall.

“No, I’m fine. It stopped bleeding.”

“But you did throw up, isn’t that a sign of a concussion?”

“Yeah, but I’m sure it’s nothing.” he paused and looked at the floor. “Sorry about your shoes by the way.”

“It’s alright, you got most of it in the street.”

“Yeah…poor guy on the bike.”

They reached the door and Leela let go of his arm.

“I really did have a great time Fry, thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

Leela smiled and softly kissed him. “You’re a great guy Fry, please don’t ever change.”

He smiled and Leela waved. “Bye, I’ll see you at work tomorrow.”

“Bye Leela.”

When she was on the elevator Fry opened the door and walked inside where everyone was waiting for him.

“So how did your date go?”

He sighed happily, “It went fantastic.”

“You wanna tell us about it?”

“Actually, I sort of hit my head, I’m gonna get some rest. See you guys in the morning.”

He walked into his bedroom and everyone looked at each other.

“Score one for liquor and poor judgment.” Sheldon said.

The next morning Fry walked into Planet Express with a small bandage on his head. He had woken up during the night feeling something sticky and oozing on his pillow so Leonard rushed him to the hospital where he ended up getting a few stitches. He walked into the kitchen and found Leela pouring herself a cup of coffee.

“Hey,” he said walking up behind her. Leela turned around and when she saw the bandage on his head, put her hands on her hips giving him a look that said I told you so.

“Okay, you were right, we should of gone to the hospital.”

“Told you.” she smirked. “So what did they say?”

“I had a slight concussion, nothing too serious, but I got four stitches.” he replied filling his mug.

“But everything’s okay now?”

“Everything is fine. They just said to get some rest.”

“Well then you should of stayed home.”

“Nah, I’m fine.”

“Then at least stay here while we go on the mission.”

“Leela I’ll be okay.”

“Fry, as your captain I am ordering you to stay here while we go on the mission.”

Fry smiled and saluted. “Yes captain.”

“Just take it easy.” she paused, “How about you and I hang out tonight.”

“Really?” he said surprised, “What do you have in mind?”

“We can hang out here for a while. Everyone will be gone and we can just relax.”

He nodded as he sipped his coffee. “Sounds great.”

“Good news everyone!” The Professor shouted walking into the lounge. After the delivery Fry, Leela, Bender, Leonard, Penny, Howard and Rajh spent the afternoon hanging out in the lounge watching TV.

“Sheldon and I have fixed the time machine!”

Penny got up and cheered, “Yes! Finally!”

“But then we broke it again.”

She sat back down and folded her arms. “Damn.”

“But all we have to do is figure out what went wrong the second time and it should be completed soon.”

“I hope so. I’ve probably lost my job by now.”

“Of course you have.” Bender said, “Your boss and everyone you’ve worked with is dead now.”

Penny rolled her eyes as Bender took a drink from his beer. “Thanks for the reminder.”

The Professor walked back into his lab leaving the rest of them in the lounge.

“Hey Fry,” Leonard said, “you wanna order Chinese food tonight?”

“Oh, sorry Leonard, Leela and I are hanging out tonight.”

“No problem,”

Leonard gave Penny a wink and she knew exactly what he was thinking.

Things seem to be working out between them, huh?

I know! I’m so happy for them.

That night Leela was upstairs in the observatory while Fry was down stairs. They had decided to order a pizza and spend the night upstairs stargazing. After finishing Fry took everything back down stairs and soon came back upstairs. He flipped the light switch as Leela opened the moon roof and laid a blanket down on the floor. Fry laid on his back looking up at the stars.

“You know, I never get tired of just laying down looking up at the stars.”

“Neither do I,” she said getting comfortable next to him. “If you don’t mind me asking what got you so interested in astronomy?”

Leela turned her head as he spoke, his eyes never making contact with her, they just kept looking up at the stars. “I don’t know, maybe it was just a love for the planets…or it could of just been a dislike for this one.”

“What do you mean?”

“I just never felt like I belonged anywhere.”

“I know how that feels.”

“I’ve always had this dream of flying through space with the girl of my dreams.”

“Do you think that dream will ever come true?”

He turned his head and looked at her reaching for her hand. “It already has.” he said softly.

“Fry,”

They both sat up and Fry looked in her eye. “Leela, I…I…”

She put a finger up to his lips stopping him. Smiling she whispered, “Don’t say anything. Don’t say anything.” before putting her arms around him. “I know, and I love you too.”

“You do?”

Leela nodded and Fry felt tears forming in his eyes. “Leela, you’ve made me the happiest guy in the universe.”

“Fry you’ve made me the happiest girl in the universe.” she said kissing him.

The next morning Fry walked downstairs to the kitchen and found Leela making herself a pot of coffee. He snuck up behind her slipping his arms around her waist.

“Morning,”

“Good morning.”

She turned and kissed him before he rested his chin on her shoulder.

“Last night was amazing,” he whispered.

“Fry, I thought we agreed not to talk about this at work.”

“But no ones here.”

“Still, lets just keep it quiet.”

“Fine. But since no ones here, you wanna slip over to the Professors lab and share a decontamination shower?” he chuckled.

She playfully pushed him and sat on the counter as Fry poured himself a cup of coffee. They both heard the door open and everyone walked inside.

“Fry, what happened? You never came home last night.” Sheldon said.

“Leela you never came back either.” Penny added.

“Oh, we fell asleep upstairs. We just woke up about ten minutes ago.”

Leela and Fry walked into the lounge while the rest of them shook their heads. Unconvinced that what Leela said was true they made their way to where Hermes kept the surveillance tapes.

“Oh….your….God!” Bender said.

“I knew it!” Penny said, “I told you something happened!”

“You were right.” Leonard said, “but I think it would be better if we kept it to ourselves. Agreed?”

“Agreed.” they all replied.

“Hey there stud.”

Fry turned and saw Bender and Howard walking towards him. “What?”

“The blog-o-sphere is a booming with news of you and Leela making- bang, bang music.” Howard said hitting the wall.

Fry’s eyes went wide. “How did it get on the internet?”

“I put it there.” Howard said.

“Well how did you find out?”

“A little fly on the wall told us.” Bender said, “Apparently you are a ‘magnificent beast’.”

Fry stuttered for the right words and started walking away. “Well…that’s parts true.”

“Leela!”

Leela turned at the sound of Fry screaming her name.

“What’s that?” Penny asked.

“I’m not sure.”

Fry ran in and grabbed her arm, “Excuse us Penny.”

They ran out of the room and Fry let go of her arm. “We have a problem.”

“What’s going on?”

Fry whispered what Howard said and Leela’s eye went wide. “What?!”

“Yeah,”

“So everyone knows?”

“Yeah,”

She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder. Fry responded by putting his arms around her.

“Terrific, just terrific.”

“Hey, everything’s gonna be fine. I mean, they’re all happy for us.”

She looked up. “Really?”

“Yeah,”

She smiled and kissed him. “I’m happy for us too.”

Leela and Fry walked back into the conference room and found Amy, Howard, Penny and Leonard sitting at the table. The two of them joined them and Amy stirred her coffee.

“So, guys tell me, is Sheldon single?”

“What?” Leonard asked.

“Is he single?”

“Of course he is,” Penny laughed.

“Well what’s his deal?”

“His deal?”

“You know, girls, guys, sock puppets?”

Howard shook his head, “Sheldon doesn’t really have a deal.”

“What?”

“It’s true,” Leonard said, “We’ve often devised theories of how he might reproduce.”

“My bet is on mitosis.” Howard said, “I think one day he will just spilt into two Sheldon’s.”

“Wait,” Leela said, “Amy, do you have a crush on Sheldon?”

“Maybe, why?”

“It’s just that, Sheldon’s not the kind of guy you go out with.”

“Sheldon’s not the kind of guy anyone goes out with. In fact human relationships confuse and repulse him.” Howard said.

“Well I’m going to ask him out.”

“Good luck,” Leonard said, “you’re gonna need it.”

Amy walked into the Professors lab and found Sheldon working on the time machine.

“Hey Sheldon.”

“Hello Amy,” he said just quickly glancing up.

“So…whatcha doing?”

Sheldon glanced up at her again. “Trying to fix the time machine. But I’m having some trouble.”

“Well let me take a look at it.”

Sheldon stood up and laughed. “Oh Amy, Amy, Amy.”

“Oh what, what, what?”

“This is an extremely complex device.” Amy just ignored him as he continued to ramble. “It took me years to put together and months to build, I don’t think-”

“Done.”

Sheldon looked at what she had done and his eyes went wide. “You fixed it.”

“Well, I am an engineer.”

“You’re an engineer?”

“Yep, I’m working to get a doctoral degree from Mars U.”

“Wow,”

“Well why don’t we go tell everyone that its fixed and celebrate by going out for drinks?”

Sheldon just stared at her. “Okay…”

Amy smiled and walked back into the lounge.

“I think I’m in love,” Sheldon said to himself. “Hmm, that’s odd, why do I feel a sudden tightness in my loins-oh!”

That night everyone was gathered at the bar. Everyone had decided they would spend one more day in the future before going home. The nine of them were gathered in a large booth when a young waitress wearing a short skirt and revealing top came up to them.

“Alright, what will it be?”

Bender ordered 10 beers for him and 20 whiskey shots, Fry and Leela each got a vodka and tonic, Amy and Penny got Cosmos with Moon Dust around the glass, Leonard got a tequila sunrise, Rajh got a Grasshopper, and then the waitress came to Howard, who was just staring at her.

“And what about you?”

“Uh, I’ll try a slippery nipple.”

Everyone turned and looked at him. After realizing what he said he covered his eyes.

“Okay, he’s cut off.” Penny said.

“Alright, and what for you sir?” she asked Sheldon.

“I’ll have a diet coke.”

“Oh come on Sheldon,” Penny said, “order a drink.”

“Fine. I’ll have a virgin Cubalibre.”

The waitress put her hand on her hip. “That’s rum and coke with out the rum.”

“Yes,”

“So coke?”

“Yes. And would you make it diet?”

“I’ll get you a can.”

“A Cubalibre usually comes in a tall glass with a lime wedge.”

“Then swim to Cuba.”

She walked away and Sheldon frowned. “Waitresses are suppose to have people skills.”

“Come on Sheldon, would it kill you to live a little?” Penny asked.

“Yes.”

“To life, to life, l'chai-im,! L'chai-im, l'chai-im, to life! Life has a way of confusing us Blessing and bruising us, Drink l'chaim, to life!”

Everyone was watching as Sheldon sang Fiddler on the Roof and played the keyboard at the bar about an hour later.

“I don’t believe it.” Fry said, “What’s gotten in to him?”

Penny laughed before responding, “Well, they had a few virgin Cubalibre’s that turned out to be a little slutty.” She held up a bottle of rum she stole from the bar.

“You didn’t!” Leela said.

“Hey Sheldon’s a scientist, he has his experiments, I have mine.”

“To life, to life, L'chai-im! L'chai-im, l'chai-im, to life! It gives you something to think about, Something to drink about, Drink l'chai-im, to life! l'chai-im!”

Even later that night, Fry and Leela walked out of the bar with their arms around each other. Both were stumbling and laughing.

“That was fun,” Leela said.

“Yeah it was.”

“What do you say,” Leela said putting her arm around his neck, “you and I spend some alone time together?”

“Yeah,” Fry said as she led him down the street towards her apartment.

A few minutes later Leonard, Penny, Howard, Rajh, and Bender walked out.

“Where’s Fry and Leela?” Penny asked.

“Yeah, and where’s Amy and Sheldon?” Bender replied.

“Oh, this is not good. Not good at all.” Leonard said, “Lets split up. Bender you and Rajh go to Planet Express, Howard and I will go to Fry’s apartment, and Penny you go to Leela’s.”

“But what about Amy and Sheldon?” Howard asked.

“Well they might be at Planet Express or at Amy’s or at our place.” Bender said, “Lets just find Leela and Fry.”

“We’ll all meet back at Fry and Bender’s apartment in half an hour.”

Howard and Leonard were sitting on the couch in the apartment waiting for everyone. When they walked in it was dark and no one was there. A few minute later Bender and Rajh walked in saying that no one was at Planet Express and then finally Penny came in.

“So?” Leonard asked, “Was anyone there?”

“Oh yeah, and I’m going to have to stay here tonight.”

“Why?” Bender asked.

“Because Leela and Fry are sort of hooking up at her place.”

“What? Are you sure?”

“Look I grew up on a farm and from what I heard they're either having sex or Fry’s caught in a milking machine.”

Everyone shook the thought away and then realized that Sheldon and Amy were still missing.

“I’ll call Amy.” Bender said before dialing the number. It rang a few times before Amy picked up, said “Don’t call back” and hung up.

“Well they’re there, and I bet their doing it.”

“Nice Bender.” Penny said.

“No I usually call when Amy has a date to ruin it and she said the same thing she does when she’s doing it with some other loser.”

“But-with Sheldon?” Penny asked. “I mean, sure I’d choose Sheldon before Howard, but still.”

Howard gave her a look and shook his head.

“Well we’ll just find out in the morning.” Leonard said.

The next morning everyone except for Fry, Leela, Amy and Sheldon were in the lounge. Fry and Leela walked in with smiles on their face and Fry had his arm around Leela’s waist.

“Hey everyone.” Leela said.

“What happened?” Penny asked.

“What do you mean?” Fry asked back.

“She’s talking about you two ditching us and going back to Leela’s place and doing it.” Bender said.

“We’re sorry, we didn’t mean to ditch you. You guys still had fun right?”

“Oh yeah, it was a lot of fun wondering where Sheldon and Amy were.”

“What?”

“They ran off as well.”

“LEONARD!”

Everyone looked at the door when they heard Sheldon screaming. He ran in a few seconds later in the same clothes he wore the night before.

“Sheldon what happened?”

“I-I-”

“You slept with Amy didn’t you?” Penny asked.

Sheldon just nodded and whimpered a little while Howard looked at Rajh and whispered “Lucky.”

“Well what do you want us to do?”

“I want to use the time machine and go back to stop myself.”

“Sheldon, calm down. We’re going home tomorrow and then you’ll never see Amy again and you can forget the whole thing.” Penny said.

“Wait, when you go home you’re just going to forget about us?” Fry asked.

“After we helped you adapt to the future, opened our homes to you and everything else we’ve done for the last few weeks?” Leela added.

“Of course not, this was the most amazing experience of our lives. Right guys?” Penny said. “It just came out wrong. I’m sorry. I was just trying to help Sheldon.”

“Maybe it would be best if we left today.” Leonard said.

Fry and Leela looked at each other.

“No, we’re sorry.” Leela said, “Besides, Fry and I want to take you guys out to thank you.”

“Thank us? For what?” Leonard said.

“If it wasn’t for you guys than I wouldn’t of realized what a great guy Fry is and never would of fallen in love with him.” Leela said squeezing Fry’s arm. “That’s why we got so upset. I mean we’ll never forget you guys for what you did for us.”

The door opened and everyone looked as Amy walked in. Sheldon freaked out a little and she looked at everyone. “Uh, hi. Sheldon can I talk to you?”

“Okay.”

When he didn’t move she sighed. “Alone?”

He looked at Leonard who gave him a look that said ‘Go on”. Reluctantly he followed Amy into the Professors lab.

“Look I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for what happened last night. I mean I really do like you, but I know that we moved to fast. Well for you at least. But you are a great guy, and I’m sorry.”

Sheldon thought about it and smiled. “Apology accepted. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” she said before giving him a small kiss on the cheek. “Now lets go enjoy your last day in New, New York.”

After spending the day flying in the ship, walking down town and doing anything else they could think of, everyone was gathered at the conference table eating their last dinner together. Fry stood up and cleared his throat holding his glass up.

“I just want to say a few things. First off, I want to say that I’m glad you guys ended up here. It was nice to be with someone from my own time. Second I want to thank you guys for what you did for Leela and I. Neither of us have been this happy in years. And finally, when you get the chance, come back to visit us.”

He sat down and Leonard held up his glass. “To our friends in the future. We’ll never forget you guys.”

Epilogue: One year later

“Fry come on we have to get to the hospital!”

Fry was running franticly around their apartment trying to find his keys and Leela’s bag.

“Okay here lets go!”

They had been married for a year and a month after their wedding Leela found out she was pregnant. With twins. She was surprised how much Fry had changed since she told him. He was more responsible, but was still his old self at times and Leela was glad because that was the Fry she fell in love with.

“Just hang in the honey we’ll get there in time.”

Fry hailed a cab and ordered him to get them to Taco Belleview hospital as fast as he could. 30 seconds later Leela was being wheeled into her room.

While they waited for her contractions to get closer Fry called everyone then sat down next to her.

“You doing okay?”

“Yeah I-”

She stopped short when she felt another pain and Fry grabbed her hand letting her squeeze his. The doctor came in and smiled.

“How about we deliver these babies?”

“Oh God yes!” Leela said.

“Okay, on the count of three I want you to give me a big push okay? 1...2...3. Push!”

Leela pushed as hard as she could and squeezed Fry’s hand.

“Okay again, 1...2...3. Push!”

She repeated the same action and Fry couldn’t help his curiosity so he walked over to the end and gasped. “What is that?”

“That’s the head…and the arms. Okay one more push Mrs. Fry.”

Leela repeated the action once more and sighed. “Is it over?”

“Well with this baby, but you’re having twins so we have to do it one more time.”

Leela groaned but Fry looked at the baby one of the nurses was holding. “What is it?”

“Meet your son Mr. Fry.”

“My son?” he asked smiling.

“Fry!”

He quickly ran over and took Leela’s hand. “You can do it Leela.”

A few minutes later the doctor held up a screaming baby girl.

“Fry, look at them they’re so cute.” Leela said holding her children after the nurses had weighed them and cleaned them off.

“I know,”

“So do you two have names yet?” the one nurse asked.

Leela looked at Fry’s Cal Tech shirt and smiled. “How about Leonard Howard Fry and Penny Shelly Fry?”

“Yeah, I like it.”

After the nurses left Fry sat on the edge of the bed holding Leonard. “Hey buddy, I’m your daddy.”

Leonard smiled and Fry looked at Leela. “Too bad they’re not here.”

“Yeah,”

There was a knock at the door and Bender walked in. “Hey Meatbags.”

He noticed Leonard and Penny and smiled. “Aw, look at the mini Meatbags.”

“Say hi to uncle Bender you two.” Fry said.

“Hey I got a surprise for you guys.”

“Really?”

He opened the door and Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, Rajh and Howard walked in.

“What are you guys doing here?”

“The professor came up with a new invention so we can call each other back and forth and when he told us you were having your babies we knew it was time for a visit.” Penny said giving them both a hug. “They’re adorable. What are their names?”

Fry smiled. “This is Leonard Howard Fry.”

Leonard and Howard looked at each other.

“And this,” Leela said, “is Penny Shelly Fry. Sorry Rajh.”

“It’s okay,” he said.

Howard looked at him. “You just talked in front of Leela and Penny.”

Rajh shook his head, “I did, didn’t I?”

“Oh boy it’s a day of miracles!” Bender said.
