Broken Hearts Can Lead To Better Things, Part 2
By Mz Kroker
"Wow, I didnt think you would be this surprised," Amy commented.
"NOT BE SURPRISED?!" Kif blurted. "Amy, you're with Zapp! Zapp of all people!"
"So, you're okay with it?" Zapp asked.
Kif wanted to scream at them but decided to do somthing else, somthing drastic.
"Yes," Kif said comly, "I guess I should tell you somthing too, Amy, I've been dating someone else." It killed Kif to lie to Amy, but he had to.
"Oh, really?" Amy said, "Who?"
Now Kif was stuck. Suddenly a girl walked out of her room. Kif took her hand and pulled her beside him. Then he looked at her. It was the waitress.
"Ericka?!" Kif looked surprised, then quickly added, "I meen, Ericka, the waitress."
"That would explain why she knew you," Amy commented.
"Well Kif that would mean that you would be okay with this right?" Zapp asked, then without even hearing an answer, he picked up Amy like a groom would hold a bride, and walked into the room.
Kif started crying.
"Man, are you okay?" Ericka asked. Kif shook his head.
"I feel like such an idiot"
"Well don't, how would of you known anyway?" Ericka replied.
"Ya but now I don't even have a place to stay for the night, and it's getting late," Kif inquired.
"You could stay at my place, since I'm now supposedly dating you."
"No prob, We just have to pick up Summer and we can get outta here," Ericka stated.
They walked into the lobby and Ericka waved at Summer.
"I got a new roomie!" Ericka called. Summer walked over.
"Oh, Zapp's assistant?" Summer looked at Kif. He looked back at her.
"Don't call me that, please," he said.
"Well, should we get going?" Ericka asked.
Ericka and Summer hopped into the front seats of a black hover craft.
"Are you coming?" Summer asked Kif. Kif jumped into the back, he felt akward riding with two girls.
Ericka turned the volume up as far as it would go. It was an old song called "Everything."
Ericka and Summer started singing it together.
"Hey Kif why don't you join along?" Summer asked.
"I, I dont know the song," Kif studdered. "Who sings it?"
Ericka looked at him. "Ever hear of Michelle Branch?" she yelled over the music.
"Who?!" Kif yelled back. At that moment the song ended and Ericka turned the radio down.
"Michelle Branch," Ericka laughed.
"No...." Kif answered. "Hey watch it!" Ericka was about to hit a Slurm truck but quickly steered away.
"Dont worry 'bout her," Summer replied, "she knows what she's doing."
Ericka dropped Summer off and stopped at her appartment. Kif looked like he was glued to his seat.
"Are you okay?" Ericka asked.
"Are you still driving?"
"Them I'm fine."
Kif slowly came out of the Hovercraft, regaining his balance.
"Is this where you live?" Kif asked.
"Home sweet home," Ericka said. "Come on I'll show you my room." She bolted up the stairs and went threw the doors. She stopped at an elevator and waited for it.
"Thanks again for letting me stay here, But its only temoporarily, untill I get a job." Kif tried to make a conversation.
"Don't you have a job with the DOP or whatever it's called?" Ericka chuckled.
"DOOP?" Kif laughed. "Nah, I had a boring job there anyway, Wow!"
Just then the elevator door opened. They got in and Ericka pushed 16, the highest floor.
"Here we are, room 587, with the greatest view of NNY city," Ericka said as she opened the door to her room. "Sorry my place is such a mess."
Kif looked around. There were 2 couches facing each other beside a fire place, across was a small round table with two chairs, and then a kitchen. A few shirts were laying around on the couches and that was about it.
"It doesn't look like such a mess to me."
"You're just saying that," Ericka said. "The bathroom is that first door, the second is my room, and the third can be yours." She motioned the a wall Kif was leaning on.
"Well, I think I'm going to call it a night," Kif yawned. "Oh crap."
"I forgot all my stuff at the hotel room, all my other clothes were there."
"Hmmmm..." Ericka looked at him, "ya know, I think I might have some clothes that might fit you."
Ericka opened the door to her room and walked over to a wardrobe and started searching for some clothes.
"Well you can probably wear what you're wearing right now to bed and wear this in the morning." Ericka pulled out a blue tie-dye shirt with a Japenese symbol on it and some blue jeans. "I've never worn it yet so it's basically new."
"Uh...Sure?" Kif answered.
"Okay then, G'night."
Kif walked over to his room, it was a beige-ish colour. He sighed missing his little blue room on the Nimbus. He climed into the bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, when Kif awoke, he could smell the aroma of pancakes in the air. He walked out of his room and was greeted by Ericka.
"Good morning!" she sang from the kitchen area. "I hope you like pancakes."
Kif rubbed his eyes.
"I love them," he said and threw a yawn.
"Great! I've made a big batch. Have a seat at the table"
"What time did you get up at?" Kif asked as he sat down.
"Around 10:00, it's about 11 now." Ericka brought out two plates with pancakes on them and sat one down in front of Kif.
Kif started eating them, they tasted familliar. After they finished, Ericka put them in a dishwasher and sat back down.
"How ya feeling?" Ericka asked.
"About as good as anyone can feel after they realized that their girlfriend is cheating with there boss," Kif answered.
"Do you like to paint?" Ericka changed the subject.
"What? Well ya, but what does this-" Kif started.
"GREAT!" Ericka interupted. "Cuz, I was thinking we could go pick up some paint, and paint your room. How about it?"
"Super! Let's go!" Ericka ran out the door.
"Are you going to drive again?" Kif asked.
"Nah, we can walk," Ericka answered. "It's right across the street."
Kif squinted his eyes from the sun and looked at a mall right across from Ericka's house.
"I never noticed it there before," he said.
"They just renovated it there last night, didnt you hear it?"
"I must of been sleeping."
Later in the paint section, Kif was looking at a few colours.
"Picked a colour yet?" Ericka asked.
"Well isn't it your room?"
"Not anymore, you're the one staying in it," Ericka replied. "So which colours have you picked out?"
"I was looking at these ones." Kif pulled out 2 cans, one light blue and the other lime green.
"Sure, that would be great!" Ericka took them and went off to pay for them.
"So then the farmer says, that's no mule, that's my wife!" Ericka and Kif burst out laughing at the joke as they came through the door to Ericka's room.
"We should start painting right away," Ericka said.
"Don't we have have to put plastic and stuff on the floor?" Kif asked.
"There's no need for it," Ericka answered. "Summer came over and did the floors plus, it's non-drip paint"
"Well don't we need a plan?"
"We have one."
"What is it?"
