Beyond the Stock Market
By Dwayne Anderson

Note:This story is set after "Future Stock".

It was the day after Fry had decided to cancel the sale of Planet Express and resigned from his position. Everything was back to normal.

Well, almost everything.

Even though everyone had their jobs back, they now had a grudge against Fry. The reason? They had gotten one big chance to become millionaires, only to have Fry mess it up. To make matters even worse, the Planet Express crew voted to have him fired.

As he sat around his apartment, moping and drinking Coca Cola, Fry began to miss the good old days. Even though he knew he had made the right decision in not selling the company, he was beginning to have second thoughts.

Back at Planet Express, Leela was starting to have second thoughts towards Fry and his dismissal.

The hours passed. Not once did Fry stand from the couch he sat upon, except to get another can of Cola.

Just then, the door slid open. He hears a voice.

"Fry!"

Fry turns.

"Leela, what are you doing here?"

"I just want to apologize for the way Planet Express is treating you right now. Besides, I think I'm starting to understand why you didn't sell the company."

"You are?"

"Well, I just remembered the saying, `money can't buy happiness'. Fry, I am going to get you your old job back, whether Planet Express likes it or not!"

A little later, the Planet Express crew are gathered around the circular table.

"Look everybody," said Leela, "I think we should all apologize to Fry for the way we've been treating him."

"No way!" said Hermes.

"No can do," said Amy.

"Bite my shiny metal ass!" said Bender.

"Will you all just listen?" said Leela. "Look, Fry may have messed up and ruined our chances to become stinking rich instead of just plain stinking..."

"Hold your horses," said Amy, "I changed my deoderant today."

"Well, as I was saying," said Leela, "I still think Fry made the right decision. What do you think?"

Nobody spoke.

"All in favor of firing Leela?" asked Farnsworth.

Everyone rose their hands, except Leela and Fry.

"Now wait just a darn minute," said Leela. "I have the right to say what's on my mind. Haven't you all heard the phrase, `Money can't buy happiness, friendship, or romance'?"

"If we had the money," said Hermes, "we could have rented them!"

"I could easily find romance with a hooker bot!" said Bender.

"And I wouldn't have to ask my parents for money either!" said Amy. "And if Fry had sold the company, I could have started repaying them for all the money they loaned me."

"And don't you all remember how upset we were when we got fired?" asked Leela. "You should all be thanking Fry! He got us our jobs back!"

"That we will do," said Bender. "The day when that occurs will be the day when I stop drinking!"

"And further more," said Leela, "even if Fry did sell the company, we probably wouldn't have gotten much anyway. Why, just earlier this morning, I found out that our shares and stocks dropped to practically nothing!"

"So even if I did sell," said Fry, "we'd be PBAU."

"PBAU?" asked Amy.

"Practically broke and unemployed!" said Fry. He chuckled.

"So what do you say guys?" asked Leela.

"OK already," said Farnsworth. "Fry, we're giving you your old job back, but don't count on any respect."

"I'll give you each twenty bucks," said Fry.

"Deal!" said everyone.

Bender starts dealing out cards. "I call dealer!" he said.

"Bender, no one is playing Blackjack!" said Leela.

"Aw crap!" said Bender.

"Good to have you back Fry," said Leela.

"And it's good to be a delivery boy again," said Fry.
