Futurama

Boo!
Posted on October 31, 2009 by Tim
It occurs to me that of all of the holidays Futurama dealt with, they haven't done anything with Halloween yet (It feels kind of weird to be talking in the future tense. What a good problem to have, eh?) So anyway, let's start to celebrate Halloween by lighting the old pumpkin. This rather intricate beauty was sent in by Whatever James, but he didn't carve it. Oh my no, you see, he found it on his favorite craft forum, craftster.org. It was done by a member there named fairysari and WJ thought it was so cool that he just had to spread the love. The entire forum post and explanation of how she completed this masterpiece can be found here.

Now one Halloween fixture that seems to turn up in Futurama Fan Art way out of proportion to it's appearance in the show is Zombies. Ok, some may make the case that Fry was kind of a Zombie most of the time, but he didn't really have the decaying flesh and rising from the dead thing going (unless you count first thing in the morning). Anyway, what we gots here is another El-Freako collaboration - which is to say Futurama_Freak1, who did the original sketch, and El-man who provided the ink and colo(u)r. And Fry, this looks like one kiss from Leela you aren't going to enjoy.

Jodes also jumped out from behind a wall and yelled "BOO!", by which schlee means "Happy Halloween, Madhouse". Watch that scaring people though, you might end up with a brick in your bag. I don't know what happened to Fry here, but whatever it was, I bet he dropped a couple.

Ok, so, the last thing we're going to need is some kind of costume. Crystalmask sent in a pic of her's - it's a Zoidberg fleece hat. These are made by Lilineko who has a DA site that tells all about them. There are already pics of the Nubbler and Bender hats on Crystalmask's Fan's Photos page, and there's also a Calculon one on the DA site, plus a whole lot of others.

Happy Halloween Everyone!
It's a day ending in Y so it must be time for more Cubert's Rants.
Posted on October 29, 2009 by Tim
So today would be entirely Cubert's Rants except for the fact that the same person who sent in a whole crate load of rants also sent this Fan Art of Leela, who doesn't look particularly annoyed that the little wart scraping is around. Maybe he hasn't opened his mouth yet. Anyway, a tip of the old tin foil hat to Leela+Fry for the art, and for some answers to Cubert to be found in episodes 1ACV04, 1ACV05, 1ACV06, 1ACV07, 1ACV10, and 1ACV11.

And now for something completely different. This is a genuine first time I've had one of these - it's a Cubert's Rant all right, but a new question instead of an answer. Frosty spotted one in 2ACV03 that Cubert missed (guess we know who the real genius is now, don't we).
Oh, God! Don’t force me to share my consciousness with a female elephant in heat again.
Posted on October 28, 2009 by Tim
Leela and weapons. They just seem to go together like green snakes and sugarcane. So you might recall having seen the name Trevin Barnhard a time or two recently - he has on a number of occasions regaled us with some Cubert's Rants and, having backlogged me in that area nicely, took a break and turned his attention to Fan Art. Trev was playing Duke Nukem a while back and wondered who would win in a fight, Duke or Leela? He couldn't decide so he drew these pics and leaves it up to your imagination.

And speaking of sharing your consciousness with a female elephant in heat (again) that reminds me that we have a Fan Fiction. It's by Dead Composer and it's called The Diving Bell and the Bitter Fry. It's inspired by the movie The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and in it Fry has been exposed to a toxic chemical that leaves him completely paralyzed and unable to speak. Can the Professor’s invention restore him to a normal life? And will prune juice help a robot with a stuck brick?
{eye} love Futurama

“Who knew poses were so hard?” is the question that the e-mail from TheUnknownBlur posed. I'm guessing that there's probably about, oh, three Fan Artists to whom that comes easy, and then there's the rest of us. Blur goes on to answer his own question by saying ”I obviously didn't. But that's just the joy of learning I guess.”. It is indeed. After all, Ya gotta break a few giant bird eggs to make an omelet. Anyway, tonights headline is based on this pic, called Our Inner Shipper - check out the shirt Fry is wearing. I want one! And while you're at it, check out the other two pics Blur sent in.

A theme that seems to pop up in Fan Art (and Fan Fiction also) from time to time is various members of the PE crew in a band and despite Fry having stupid fingers, he always ends up playing a guitar it seems. And neither he nor Leela are all that great of singers. But then, civilization somehow survived the Disco era, so who can say what musical tastes will be like a thousand years from now. Be that as it may, this pic from Imilianikus features Fry and Bender on guitars, Leela singing, and a hippie Farnsworth on the drums. Far out dude. And while you're at it, you can also rock on over to Imilianikus' DA site and maybe find some more stuff.
In Outer Space, no one can hear you do anything
Posted on October 24, 2009 by Tim
Sound familiar? It should, 'cause Fry and Bender are on the job, and like as not they're not actually doing anything so there wouldn't be anything to hear, except maybe Leela yelling at them. Actually though, there is another reason it should sound familiar - and that's 'cause this Fan Art from Stingray is also a promo pic for his first ever Futurama screenplay (aka Fan Fiction) called Alien vs Planet Express. And just 'cause I'm lazy and cutting and pasting is way easier than being creative, I'll let Stingray tell you all about it: “On a routine inspection of a planetoid moon, two company men discover a mysterious alien starship. After exploring the interior of the ship, one of the men are infected with an alien parasite. The captain of the DOOP starship Nimbus, Zapp Braniggan, is called in to rescue the remaining company men, but arrives in cryostasis secretly on board the Planet Express Ship. After arriving at the nightmarish planetoid, the Planet Express crew find only one survivor of an unimaginable alien threat and rescues him.... but they are not alone. One of the blood-thirsty aliens has stowed away on the ship, ready to strike at anyone who crosses its path. With Leela's painful past haunting her memory, a horrifying killer monster on the loose, and company starship commander trying to keep the alien a secret and render anyone exposed to in expendable, its a deadly race for survival...”

And just so it doesn't get overlooked, Singray also sent this other picture of Leela toting around a Steyr AUG assault rifle. And now I think I'll just tip-toe over there and sit quietly in the corner for a while.
MY LEG FEELS FUNNY
Posted on October 23, 2009 by Tim
Hey, what's going on here? It's Thursday and Tim's updating? Tim never updates on Thursdays 'cause he's off doing other obsessions that night. Well, I managed to bang up my right leg a few days ago and so I was ordered by my doctor decided to stay home until the results of the x-rays come back. This is so unusual that a friend of mine, seeing me on IM tonight, said “I STILL THINK YOU ARE AN IMPOSTOR. Tim would not skip ${ACTIVITY}. He would simply cut the offending appendage off and hop, crawl, or slither to the meeting.” And while there is some truth to that, said friend forgets that it is difficult to drive stick with only one leg.

So, as long as I'm sort of confined to this chair and it's immediate environs, might as well purge some of the backlog. Speaking of purging things, did anyone happen to see that unknown blur that just wandered through here? I though it was my eyes going bad until I realized it was TheUnknonBlur delivering 4 new bits of Fan Art. This one here, which looks kind of like the Led Zeppelin angel logo only with Fry's head is .. uh .. yeah, exactly that.

Ohhh! Here's something we haven't had in quite a while - some Cubert's Rants. Trevin Bernhard is back with a couple in 2ACV17 and 3ACV02, Jodes takes on 2ACV03 and 2ACV06, and Red_Line takes a swipe at the little clone, also in 2ACV06. You wanna hear something funny that pertains to one of these? Well too bad, you're going to anyway: That scoop thing Hermes is eating popcorn with in Parasites Lost - it's a Jai alai "basket". Now Jai alai is very popular in the US state of Florida (spoofed in TMLH and BBS) and I have spent some time in FL (note that I said "spent", not "did") and can remember seeing ads for the game (whose rules sound a lot like Fizbin played with a ball instead of cards). And still it was a real pain in the shiny metal trying to figure out how it was spelled.

And last but not least, we have a poem which we very cleverly ensconced in our Poetry and Song Parodies section. This one is by DSS and it's called NNYC Dance Night. It's intended to be a sequel to his earlier poem Leela in my Dreams.

MY LEG FEELS FUNNY!
Strangers in strange lands
Posted on October 22, 2009 by Tim
So, unless you are an Electric Eel, water and electricity generally don't mix. That seems to be the lesson that Leela's coworkers are learning in this new Fan Art from Futurama_Freak1. Freako also says his comic is progressing nicely - now that the script is done he's got 12 of the page layouts done, with about 18 more to go.

Meanwhile, out in Fan Fiction land La Belle Leela dropped by to say that Real Life™ has been interfering with the important business of writing, but that he's finally back in the game and sent in chapters 15 and 16 of Stranger In A Strange Land; about which he says “The Planet Express gang begins to discover the plot the mysterious enemy has in store for Earth, and one other planet that the universe cannot survive without! Friendships, and relationships will be harshly tested, and sadly, one person does not survive this chapter!”.

Adding to our collection of the Music of Futurama, which resides in the Sound Clips section in case you didn't know that, is the This Toyshop's Going To War song from Bender's Big Score (which, by the way, came out about 5 weeks from now two years ago). Michelle clipped it for us, and she goes on to ask “Why don't they release a CD of the great tunes and lyrics they've created through the series? I'd buy it.”. Darn fine question. Anyone out there in Box-land listening?
You take one nap in a ditch at the park and they start declaring you this and that.
Posted on October 21, 2009 by Tim
Err, yeah, so anyway, I didn't drop dead or anything, just had some Real Life crud to deal with until Leela here hunted me down and paraded me at gun point back into the boiler room of the Madhouse. And let me tell you, the business end of a M41A Pulse Rifle makes a persuasive argument. Stingray is to blame for turning Leela loose on the world with a weapon from Aliens in two of the three Fan Art pictures he sent in. These, by the way, are based on a scene from a screenplay he's writing. The third pic is the PE ship a nice, pastoral setting under a giant ringed planet which he drew because (he says) “I was bored”. Wish I could be that productive when I was bored. It beats taking a nap in a ditch ...

Yup, more Cubert's Rants. Trevin Bernhard had a couple of responses to 1ACV12 (and I couldn't resist tossing in one of my own while I was in there also) and Jodes zinged the little clone in 1ACV13.
Someone come and dropped these packages through the slot last night.
Posted on October 17, 2009 by Tim
So I was down to a big pile of Cubert's Rants, the telephone bill, and the invoice from the guy who mows the Madhouse's lawn (with an extra charge for picking up Emo droppings ) and I was starting to wonder how I could make a list of calls to Dial-A-Joke interesting when not one, but two, packages arrive in the old mail slot. And both from people who have not graced our screens before. So the first one is Stingray with not one, not two, but three, count 'em, three bits of Fan Art. Now, this one here is not, as you might suspect at first glance, from the new series where the PE ship pops out of the wormhole. Nope, it's the PE ship silhouetted against a sun.

The other package contained a Fan Fiction - a script really. It's by Michelle (which by the way is her real name and NOT a play on the 'rama character by that name). The fic is called The Creation of Robo-Christmas and, as you might imagine, it's a Xmas tale about the beginnings of Robo Santa Claus. Says Michelle: “Here is a script that I thought Matt Groening might like to have considered, but as it happened the route to get the submission to them proved a serious pain in the rear, so I post it here for the enjoyment of other Futurama fans. You've just got to imagine it in your head for the script to work!”. That's what it's all about after all, nothing is impossible, not if you can imagine it. She goes on to say “This project started off as a nice little Christmas Special, then I realized that there had already been two Christmas episodes and that this one didn't fit. The only way to make it work was to turn it in to a story where the battle took place before the original episodes and change the original nice ending for a nasty one that finished with the creation of the Robot Santa. To do that, however, it meant using a previous Planet Express crew. That, though, then lost all the connections with other characters, like the interaction with Leela and Zap which blew gaping great big holes in three quarters of the script, so instead I had to bring the past back to the present and move the present to the future, or in the case of this Futurama episode, moving the future's past to the present future and shift the future's present to the future's future. So, half a packet of migraine tablets later ...“. And that is a lesson in fan fic writing if ever there was one.
One man, one mutant ... and a robot.

Good News Everyone! Futurama_Freak1 says he's finished the script to his comic and now he's gonna break out the crayons and start coloring. To whet our appetites, he sends this promo pic, about which he says “I picked a scene from the comic which would be the most confusing when given absolutely no context what so ever, enjoy!”. I see he's using the same methods as Matt and David and Co. do when they have something new coming out. FF1 says now that the easy part is done, it'll be at least two months to get the hard part (drawing the pictures) done. Arggggh, the wait will be ... Ooh, a reception table with muffins!

So the Lego™ people have come out with Star Wars and Lego Space and all kinds of other fun stuff, so why not a Futurama set? I mean, c'mon, we think we're at least as big as Star Wars, right? Well, for a moment, I thought maybe they had when Philipp Jensen found this web page featuring a Futurama Lego™ set. Said he “Hey have you seen this? The news is old, but the model is nevertheless impressive! I also dig the cute minifigs.” Sadly, if you read the fine print, this isn't an official set from the Lego™ people, it's custom made by a legomaniac. But it does say he made a Hypnotoad to try to get an official set. No word on if that's worked yet.

And just to make it three updates in a row with some Fan Fiction, here's the next two chapters in Vytas Wolf's Ghost From The Past. When last we left off, Fry had received a summons to appear in court beating up Zapp Brannigan. And when Herems makes fry go get a pet license for Milton, well, let's just say that a chain of events turns life inside out for a couple of one-eyed sisters.
Fry, Cubert, and other Freaks

Evey once in a great while I have to blow the dust off the old Futurama Madhouse Webmaster's Guide Book and Bait Catalog and refresh my memory, and tonight I've had to do it twice. Once to tell Futurama_Freak1 that there is a fee for deification, and the other to find out that there isn't anything about a fee for too-similar sounding Fan Fiction titles. You see, MC sent in the latest chapter of his fic Ten Years Gone which is very similar to the tile of another fic I am somewhat familiar with and I've just about worn out my backspace key trying to type his correctly. So anyway, in part 2, which is subtitled In My Time of Dying, the war has been over for ten years now, but for one man the wounds go too deep. As Philip J. Fry faces his end, a new hero is being prepared to take his place.
Fan art by Lee Roberts

Ohh, look, a picture of Cubert. It must be time for more Cubert's Rants. Trevin Bernhard has really bit into these things like Nibbler into a ham and comes up with some snappy answers in 1ACV05, 1ACV06, and 1ACV08.

And speaking of El-Freakizoid, otherwise known as Futurama_Freak1, he reports that, with some minor assistance from a genius (definitely NOT Cubert) who better be named later, he is nearly done with the script of his long ... really long ... EONS long awaited comic The Surrogate Mutant. Reviewers who have seen early copies of the script report that it is "adequately satisfactory". No word yet on when we might actually see a page or two or the whole freako thing though.
Show us your ... stuff

Ok, let's welcome FMMB noobette Shiny Metal Girl 'cause she's only been around a short time and has already cranked out three, count 'em, three new Fan Arts. Two are of Leela, and the other one is SMG and Bender (she has freckles).

A really long time ago ... a really, really long time ago ... EONS ago, MC started a Fan Fiction called The Ties That Bind. Well after some persistent merciless badgering occasional gentle reminders, he's finally come through with the new and improved part 6 in which the Professor's funeral brings all of the likely suspects in Leela's attack and blackmail together, but time is running out for Fry and Bender to discover who's trying to take over Planet Express.

And I probably shouldn't even mention this 'cause it isn't Futurama related, but it's apparently too hot for some of the Simpsons sites and I just gotta. Marge Simpson is going to be on the cover of the October Playboy magazine. Her appearance is meant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Simpsons animated series. I'll justify this by saying maybe if Futurama gets to 20 years, Leela will make an appearance.
Nothing is unpossible or unrealistic, not if you can imagine it. And write it down. And it appears here.

So two of our three things tonight are based on 6ACV01, which I think I recall hearing somewhere might be called “rebirth” but as tired as I am right now that also could be delirium on my part. So assuming I'm not imagining all of this - hey, wait a minute! Maybe this is all a dream and soon I'll wake up in hammock on the ship ... Nah, that's too good to be true - this must be the dream part. It's all so confusing. So anyway, gbow got really, really excited by the sneak preview of the new episode and drew this Fan Art based on what we saw in the animatic. Schlee also drew another pic that Fry and Leela from Love and Rocket.

And, in what has got to be the first post animatic Fan Fiction, here's Rush with a little reality bending story called Jumping Through A Wormhole. It's an alternate universe scene to the aftermath of Into The Wild Green Yonder and the recent 3 minute animatic. And if you read it, you'll see where the inspiration for today's headline comes from. Or maybe that was perspiration? Mmm, no, I'm pretty sure it's inspiration.
What do Futurama, Chinese restaurants, and shapely growths have in common?
Posted on October 8, 2009 by Tim
Read on and find out. I bet you've guessed one already, so we'll save that for last. First though, here's another Real World Futurama photo! This one is of a Chinese restaurant in Charleston, West Virginia, USA, which is within a couple of miles (3 km) of where FryFangirlLisa lives. She says “When I saw the sign, I thought it was hilarious, cause it reminded me of the Futurama episode, Less Than Hero cause Super King is Bender's superhero name.” That's good enough for me so it's been enshrined in our Fan's Photos section.

Ok, I'm trotting out another random Cubert frame grab so that means it's time for more Cubert's Rants - we're really having a run on those lately. Anywho, Trevin Bernhard is back with more answers in 2ACV11, 2ACV17, and 3ACV09. Trev must have really tweaked the little growth scraping's nose because he actually came back with a rebuttal on one of them.
It's Da Bomb

“So I pull the pin, count to ten, and then what?” is what I imagine Fry will be asking. Fry certainly has a little problem, but he hasn't quite figured that out yet according to Imilianikus who sent in this Fan Art. He also sent one that's a nod towards the many Counter Strike gamers out there. He says he don't play it, but ...

And over in Fan Fiction land we've got Vytas_wolf back with part 2 of Ghost From The Past in which we find out a little more about Leela's long lost little sister and her mysterious cohorts.

Bet you can't guess what time it is now? That's right, it's time for more answers to Cubert's Rants where you, the viewer, get to tweak the little runt's nose. And tweak it you have been, 'cause I've got a pile of these to do so you're going to be seeing them all week, like as not. Anyway, for today, MadeInMexico has a bunch of them for 1ACV03.
Color framegrabs of 6ACV01? Already?

Hah! Those fun guys at the Futurama Panel at the Florida Animation Supercon the other day wanted us to believe that all they had was the rough animatic of the first of the new epps and that it had only been completed a couple of days before. Well believe what you like, but we here at the Madhouse have high friends in low places and we've managed to score five, count 'em, five of what purport to be framegrabs of the first new epp. Our ace operative, Futurama_Freak1, snagged these pics after hiding out in a dumpster in the hot Miami sun for hours on end and so, in exchange for him heading directly back to the other side of the world, we put them in his Fan Art page.

A few days ago we had a couple of answers to some of Cubert's Rants and all of a sudden my mail box filled up with 'em, so here's a few to start off with. Frosty had one for 2ACV17 and Seymour_My_Hero hit 2ACV01 and 3ACV02. That ought to keep the annoying little clone funing in his corner 'till the next batch is ready.

David X. Cohen's bringing the smokes!
Posted on October 1, 2009 by Svip
Over at The Futurama Point, JavieR is rolling with the story from Animation SuperCon in Florida's Twitter feed, that David X. Cohen (along with the Futurama cast) will be presenting a sneak preview of the first episode of the sixth season.

Of course, the whole ordeal at Animation SuperCon will in a way make up for the failed panel at Comic-Con in July, but whether there will be any news about Fox seems doubtful. But certainly more details on plots will be available, since they recording them and animating it now.

Furthermore, I believe Carthage must be destroyed.
