You can have your cupcakes and eat them too, even if they are a month old.
Posted on July 28, 2010 by Tim
You just know it's gonna be fun when the name of the web site is My Food Looks Funny. And here are some month old Futurama inspired cupcakes. Flounder found this site and pointed it out to me about a month ago. I uh ... forgot about it, yeah, that's it, forgot, until now. There were more cupcakes before, but they uh ... evaporated, yeah, that's it.

And now it's time to play my favorite game, Confuse the Webmaster. It's easy to play, let's start with this very neat and kinda artsy Fan Art by Jodes. Hmm, I could have sworn Jodes had some fan art up already, but it's not there. OK, no problem, we'll just fire up Leandro's handy dandy fan art uploader and send it on it's way. Ooops, error, id already in use by Mrs-Ryuzaki-Fry. Who? Oh, I see, the fan artist formerly known as Jodes. I guess after 1,431 days, 657 updates, and 1,448 fan contributions, I can't be expected to remember everything.

Ok, spoiler alert! If you haven't seen 6ACV06 Lethal Inspection yet, don't look at this Fan Art. Robot's_Best_Friend did this pic of baby Bender.
Stop It Rush!
Posted on July 27, 2010 by Tim
Got your two liter of Shasta and some quarters for the video game? Better have 'cause I've got the all-Rush mix for today, starting with this Fan Art that speaks for itself.

And over in Fan Fiction land, Rush has got another new one. It's called Love's Labours Found In Space and as you might guess it's based on 1ACV04 only in characteristic Rush style it bends reality (courtesy of a visit from Universe Jumping Bender) and ends differently.

But wait, there's more. Deposit one more quarter please. This one is a little different, it's a comic, but Rush conveniently put it into video form so you don't have to waste energy clicking from page to page. It's called Bender Throws Brick and it's about Bender chucking a brick at Flexo. I'll let you figure out where the brick came from.
Another year older ...
Posted on July 26, 2010 by Tim
That's right, it's that magic date - July 27 - and The Oldest Living Futurama Fansite (that's us) marks it's 11th year! So Huzzahs and Happy B'Day to us! You can read up on FM/TLZ's remarkable history on the About This Site page. Who would have guessed all those years ago that at this time we would be witnessing, not the first, but the second rebirth of the greatest show on television? I can't think of a better birthday present. But here's one that comes close - a sneak peek at segments from the next six episodes of Futurama on this official Comedy Central site, brought to our attention on FMMB by Fruitosaurus. What's it all about you ask? Join us in some birthday speculation in this thread on the Message Board. After that, big party in Matt's room tonight.
And that's why we call it the Madhouse
Posted on July 24, 2010 by Tim
Yup, we don't lock the doors at night and all kinds of strangers wander in, including the occasional long lost webmaster. Something else that's been getting in a lot lately are Futurama Animated GIFs, a wing of the Madhouse that I had only ventured into once until just recently, and all of a sudden there's a whole bunch of these antiques from the early days of the internet when men were men and sheep were ... oh, wait, wrong joke; when sending someone a video meant e-mailing them your address so they could mail you a video tape. So anyway, this first is one of Scruffy in his classic pose, the Fox/Box network building from BBS, sent in by Scruffy. (edit: OK, I screwed up - the image of Scruffy was sent in by Todor, not Scruffy. so it's fixed now.)

And there's three more of them from Todor, all clipped from the show which I'm sure any Futurama fan worth their Slurm will recognize. And now, since I can't find the keys, I'll just grab my handy cattle prod out of the charger and close with “'scuse me, I gots to change a light bulb”.
You don't know me, I don't know you...
Posted on July 24, 2010 by Kristen
...and like a thief in the night I post and run.

On a more serious relevant note, I can't get this song out of my head. Can you? Listen to it over... and over... and over again... and then either doodle something yourself to try to work it out, watch the episode another million times, or do all of the above by proxy by checking out the scribble I threw together.

Now away I run to let you all wonder... what kind of person lets me in a madhouse like this?
Giant carrots ruled the Earth, but now they don't. It takes some getting used to.
Posted on July 21, 2010 by Tim
Ok, wes gots another one-two punch from Rush. First is a Fan Art called “two bricks and one foghat grey and one golden Bender” (makes ya wonder what got into them ). And then there's giant carrots - alluded to in Future Stock and hardly, if at all, touched by Fan Fiction. Until now that is, 'cause Rush wrote one called Giant Carrots in which Fry and the Professor talk about brain slugs. Ok, no, I'm yankin' your chain - they talk about Giant Carrots. Of course, as short as this fic is, they don't spend much time talking about Giant Carrots, so there's still plenty of room for the imaginative fan fic authors to explore in this space.
Animated - that means stuff moves, right?
Posted on July 19, 2010 by Tim
Yeah, that's what it means. At least it's s'posed to. So what we've got here is two new Animated Gifs culled from the new episodes. This one is Fry's karate move on the killer coat rack from Attack of the Killer App, and the other is Bender singing "Coma-chameleon" in Rebirth, and they're thanks to Robot's_Best_Friend. So one of the hard things about animated gifs is making an animated thumbnail out of them. I've got about a 50% track record on that, and this time isn't one of those 50%s so you get stills for thumbnails, but the full size one move.

And in her Fan Art debut is noted Fan Fiction authoress and self professed human sympathizer Go-a-Green-a, who was up at 3 AM one morning with a broken graphics tablet drawing this self-portrait.

In this case, Future-Roma - from 6ACV05 The Duh-Vinci Code. No pictures of it yet (we're not that non-lazy) but we do have the theme they used, thanks to archonix.

And just to prove that not only is the future weirder than we imagine, it's weirder that we can imagine, here's ... this. Fortunately for us, it's not weirder than the writers and producers of Futurama can imagine, let we wouldn't have hilarious things like Leela's Susan boil (if there's anyone who, like me, didn't get the joke: link ). Anyway, here's a bit of Fan Art which, to my knowledge, is the very first Susan boil pic released into the wild, from Futurama_Freak1 who comments “I haven't seen a single person that didn't express distaste for Susan, but for giving me an excuse to draw Leela's ass so close up I think she's a fantastic addition to Leela's body.”

Got a couple of things from Rush. One is this Fan Art of Flexo as a carrot (guess he musta run out of fruits and vegtables for Bender). Rush has also got a Fan Fiction called Foghat Grey Benders vs Golden Benders, which is a story that jumps straight into medieval combat. As an extra added bonus, it lacks any kind of back story for that unique Rush touch.

And lastly, Aubrey W wrote to say that in the transcript of the Rebirth animatic that it wasn't Maurice Lamarche doing the voice-over in the beginning, it's Bender (John Di Maggio). Well, yes, in the actual episode, it was John D as Bender doing the voice over, but this transcript was made from the animatic that was released last October at the Miami SuperCon what was still very much a work in progress and that definitely isn't John's voice at the beginning (you can still catch the animatic on our not recently updated Upcoming Episodes page and check it out for yourself). One of these days Real Soon Now we'll have to get around to updating that page and maybe getting some real transcripts up.
Duct tape and rags and Futurama, oh my!
Posted on July 16, 2010 by Tim
Wad 'em all up, put 'em in a bag, swing it over year head by the light of a new moon, and what do you get? How about a Turanga Leela rag doll? It's not actually made out of any duct tape that I know of, no, the duct tape part comes from the creator's name, Ductapelosergirl. There's six views including two closeups in the Fan's Photos section.

Here's something we haven't seen in a while - a video that I could tame down to a non-bandwidth busing size. And actually, I can't take credit for this one (well, ok, I could, but that would be too Benderish for me). Frosty made this Video Clip of Fry and Leela called Guardian Angel. It's set it to Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

And lastly tonight we've got a couple of new Animated Gifs which have suddenly gotten popular again. Todor put these together. This one's Leela rotating, and the other one is Leela dancing from the end of Mars University and it looks just like my (really) old (as in round screen old) B&W TV.
"Futurama nerds consistently blow all other nerds out of the nerd water"
Posted on July 13, 2010 by Tim
Ok, I'm back. Really. I spent last night helping clean up some fallout from the server barf a few days ago (geeze, ya go away for a few days, the boss walks in, and the place goes to robot-hell in a handbasket). So anyway, I'm back and sorting out the pile of mail I tripped on coming in, so let's go. Tonight's head line is taken from an article on Comedy Central Insider about Futurama Fan Art that Futurama_Freak1 pointed out to me. Which he did because it cites work he did. To quote the article in part “If you're like me, you enjoy watching Futurama, you just wish it could be combined with your intense never-wavering love of killing prostitutes.” and goes on to talk about FF1's playable New New York mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which is pretty cool when you think about it. The article cites some other pretty cool works of fan creativity too, many of which have been featured on these pages at one time or another. The only complaint FF1 and I have about the article is that it calls us "Parrotheads". Where they come up with that I don't know. Hey CC, we're nerdlingers and we blow all other nerds out of the nerd water, so next time you want to call us "Parrotheads" ... well, that leads directly into the next item:

Here's what we think of being called "Parrotheads". This Angry Leela is one of a collection of popular toons by Christ Oliver and they're giving the most-well recognized gestural language everywhere in the world ... with a one-liner adapted to each of them. He says about Leela “I give her a more muscular look because it seem natural for her.” You can check out the rest of the Angry Toons on his DA page.

Ok, everybody sing: What day is today? It's Rush's birthday, What a day for a birthday, Let's all have a banana. Yes, according to Rush's FMMB profile, today is his 21st today, so everybody hoist a cold one of your favorite beverage in toast. And to celebrate, here's two new Fan Arts of Bender as a banana and a carrot. Of the two, a banana just seemed more birthdayish.
We've got new episodes, so how about some new actors!
Posted on July 9, 2010 by Graham
Oh, hi there, everyone. Enjoying the new episodes? No! What do you mean no! Oh, I misheard, you meant yes... with sugar on top. Moving on, I've got something to update, but don't have much time to say much, so I'll just waffle along and think while typing. Imagine a world where there was no animation. Imagine a world where you couldn't draw. Imagine a world where you would have to put up with your favourite programme done in live action form. Yes, real actors, showing their real selves, warts and all, not just voices. Well, someone has got there first and done all the thinking work. Kevin Fitzpatrick has just done that, and has published it on his ugo.com page. You'll see Wallace Shawn as Professor Wernstrom, Jaden Smith as Dwight Conrad, and Wilford Brimley As Scruffy, as well as a few others. So, go off to visit Kevin Fitzpatrick's stuff on ugo.com and maybe think of others while you're at it.
Todays history lesson - don't try to predict the future. Make fun of it instead.
Posted on July 6, 2010 by Tim
Hey look - a fuzzy black and white picture of some people from a hundred years ago, what the heck is that? Could it be we've uncovered a previously undisclosed photos of Matt Groening's High School prom? No, no such luck. No, we nerdlingers know that it's a whole lot safer to make fun of the future than try to predict it. So you might recall that a we ran a little news item about the origins of Futurama - how it took it's name from the General Motors exhibit at the 1939 (Old) New York World's Fair. Well, Frosty is vacationing in Washington D.C. and was visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of American History where she ran across this exhibit featuring “Miss Futurama“. They may not have got the car of 1960 right (although by the year 2010 they weren't too far off) but they came a lot closer with her synthetic glass coat - it sets the style for the 3000's with those shoulder things. Check it out in the Miscellaneous Pictures section.
Another golden goodie blast from the past - Futurama Animated Gifs. Leandro hates these things. So, just to annoy him, here's a new one - It's the crash scene (as recorded on an eye-phone) from 6ACV03. Thanks to Chug a Bug for providing it. Note that it really is an animated gif - I just didn't have time to make an animated thumbnail for it. Maybe next week.
Uh oh, another framegrab of Fry, Leela, and Bender sitting in front of the TV. Two days in a row, what's up with that? Well let me tell you - Fan Fiction is what's up - a little short one from Rush called Watching Nothing. It's set about a week of Fry's opera and the crew are sitting around work one Friday watching static on the TV (must be analog has come back, you can't do that with HDTV).
Last thing - it's gonna be a little quiet again as I'm taking off to no internet land for a few days. So sees yas laters.
Rants and raves
Posted on July 5, 2010 by Tim
Ahh, Summer. I love it. It' 94F (34C) out right now. Not a cloud in the sky and a gentle breeze blowing. I'm sitting in the shade in the back yard, a cold one handy, the glass sweating profusely, and this update is coming to you via the magic of wireless. Oh, and Futurama is back. As the old beer commercial used to say, it don't get no better than this. So anyway, back to business ...

We haven't seen Cubert yet in the new episodes. I hope he shows up soon, I could use some new Framegrabs of him for when we get new Cubert's Rants, like right now. Bosda sends some new pokes at the annoying little twit in 2ACV11, 2ACV18, 3ACV02, Bender's Big Score, and Into The Wild Green Yonder.

Watching TV is still the national past time in the 31st century - we know this 'cause Fry and Bender are frequently seen parked on a couch in front of one, and Leela complains about missing a whole evening of it in Parabox. And so here's a Fan Fiction that revolves around that premise when Farnsworth disrupts Bender and Fry's television watching to send them on an important mission. Let's welcome Nick Varvaro in his FM/TLZ debut wit the first chapter of his fic Special Delivery.
Robots up the wazoo
Posted on July 3, 2010 by Tim
That's what we've got tonight 'cause Kaspired sent in a bunch (5) of new Fan Art all robot related. He adds this pic of Fry as a robot from Rebirth; he says that he only had a split second view so he had to fake a lot of the figure. Looks like he's got Frybot doing his best “I'm not what you think I am. Surprise!” pose. Check out the others too: there's Bender executing plan C from ITWGY, Amy as a terminator, one called 'Pop-up' which has Bender drawn in a new and unique way, and lastly, a Zoid-bot; who needs an excuse to draw Dr. Z?
What's the Rush?
Posted on July 2, 2010 by Tim
I've been asking myself that same question lately. Part of the rush is sorting out all of the mail from being gone, part of it is from the giddy high of watching the new episodes and the last bit is some new submissions from Rush. First is this pic of Bender owran in blue pen. I think that's really a D so it's "drawn in blue pen". Anyway, I'd never try to draw in pen. I'd accidentally put a dragon's tail on Bender or something and then I couldn't erase it.

Anyway, in what is unusual for him, Rush only sent the one Fan Art, or else I've overlooked a message or two somewhere. But he also sent along a Fan Fiction this time. It's called Beelzebot's Hands Are Idol Playthings. As you might guess, this is set during and after the Opera and is an alternate ending fic in which *cue the suspenseful music* unthinkable events come to pass.
This is HDTV! It's got better resolution than the real world!
Posted on July 1, 2010 by Leandro
On the last news item, Tim posted 52 Framegrabs from Rebirth made by Amyea. Unknown to them both, I was waiting for the episode to finish downloading at 720p in order to make high definition pictures out of it. Good thing she didn't capture screens from the entire episode or I would have felt really bad! But the high definition captures I made are so pretty, that I'm sure she'll forgive me for it. Take a look at some examples:

I wish I could get my hands on a 1920x1080 Full HD source, but 1280x720 is good enough to use as Wallpapers. Go and browse the Framegrabs for Rebirth!

Some things I noticed while capturing the images:
  • When the episode starts, the Planet Express building shows no sign of the collision next to it that Scruffy is seen cleaning up later.
  • Scruffy has his hat on before the opening. It's gone immediately after.
  • The thingy the Professor uses to determine that Leela is in a coma? It's a "Veg-o-Meter".
  • Robo-Leela magically gets Leela's wrist-thingy when she says "we're robots and we're in love".
  • Bender has his two eyes when coming out of the Cyclophage's mouth.

Don't forget to tune in tonight for the premiere of 6ACV03: The Killer App!
