ONly 24 more shopping days until the Robot Devil comes for your iPhone
Posted on May 31, 2010 by Tim
Hows about we lead off with some Fan Art today? Here on FM/TLZ, we know shkler as Cordarya and here's shklim's latest 'rama art work. Shklee also wants us to know that over on DA shkler's known as brushfire-fairytales where shklee has a whole shipment of artwork (mostly not Futurama but hey, it's still pretty good).

Got an iPhone? Want to take a piece of FM/TLZ with you in your iPhone? Well now you can, 'cause a site called iphoneruler.com has our Futurama Bold Font available for download into your iphone. And they give credit to Darrell Johnson and our own Leandro Pardini as creators and link back to FM/TLZ as the source so it's all good. (ps: if your new to the fandom and/or don't have an iPhone you can still be one of the cool kids and have the Futurama fonts on your computer from our Futurama Fonts page).

So what we've been hearing from the snippets that have come out about the new episodes is that Fry and Leela will have a relationship. It'll be on again-off again, and it will have “a very bizarre science-fiction twist to it”, so there's only 24 shopping days left to crank out the traditional Fry and Leela shippy video, which is what we have here. Jodes made this one, and it's set to Appologize by One Republic. It's only available on YouTube right now, as soon as she can shrink it then we'll archive here on Madhouse.
Oh, fate most cruel, would that my boundless acting skills would avail me a sword with which to slay this wretched curse.

Can't you just hear Calculon spouting that Shakespearian-like line in his overly melodramatic way? And as usual there's a reason for mentioning Shakespeare. As anyone who didn't sleep through their Literature classes should know, William Shakespeare was the English language's first and foremost fiction writer and aspiring writers are virtually obligated to study him and his writings. One such aspiring writer who has graced these scan lines before is James Prospect and last semester he had a Shakespeare course and he had to write a paper. That paper, which may or may not have earned him an A grade, is now in the Fan Fiction section and it's title is The Beast With One Back (assuming you're human) - are you beginning to see the connection here? It compares and contrasts Shakespeare's Othello and Futurama to examine the topic of monstrosity and shows how the pitfalls of human nature are what spurn people, real or fictional, into action. Sounds deep, doesn't it? It really isn't though, it's kind of a fun read.

But wait, there's more (where have we heard that before?)! James also has three pieces of Fan Art to offer. And at least one of them is in no way related to the 17th century. I'm not gonna speculate on the other two because I did sleep through literature class.

So what do nude Zapp Brannigans, double headed goats, and studded leather all have in common? Well, either Zapp is having a party or else there's been some more sneak peeks of the new epps released. If you've been following the developments at Countdown to Futurama then you already know. But if you're like me and {a} too lazy or {b} don't have the time or {c} too weirded out, then this is your lucky day 'cause we now have all of the latest developments on the Upcoming Episodes page. We also have a speculative discussion about what it all means on the Message Board.

And special thanks to Futurama_Freak1 for suggesting todays headline.

Ok, I'm back with more stuff finally. Things have been busy lately and Real Life has been getting in the way of the fun stuff but now it's a holiday weekend here in the US of A, sort of the unofficial start of summer. So to kick it off, here's a bunch of Fan Art from Rush.

And some Fan Fiction from DSS. This is part 2 of his Terminator Mutant Liberation, the fourth and final installment in his Terminator Mutant Quadrilogy. Since it's been a while, let review with some Previously on Terminator Mutant Liberation: Layla Worthington was brought into a lab for reasons unknown and was "killed". She awoke 21 years later in the war between man/ robot and mutant machines. Philip J.Fry is the leader of the Resistance. Layla meets up with Bender and Tinny Tim, two robots on their way the Resistance base. They are then captured by a Serch Collector. As Layla tried to save them, she was violently thrown into a river. Did ya get all of that?
We're almost back baby!

It has been brought to our attention that EW.com has an interview with Futurama's executive producer David X. Cohen where he talks a little bit about what they have in store for us. Just a couple of tidbits: “... we were definitely saved by our fans’ enthusiasm.” Hooray for us! About Fry and Leela: “... to have their relationship be on-again, off-again is a little more exciting for the ongoing drama of the series.” and “Craig Ferguson has the most remarkable guest role of the year: He is playing a talking part of Leela’s body. We discover that Leela has a little more to her being a mutant than we knew about.” And lastly - 26 episodes = one season or two? The sites says “the first half of season 6 kicks off June 24” now I'm really confused. A tip of the tin foil hat to Futurama_Freak1 for the pointer.
Brainspawn, they're everywhere
Posted on May 24, 2010 by Tim
So many words, so few pictures. It goes like that sometimes. So no prob, I just dig into the Framegrabs and there we go. So you've probably guessed that the fist thing up tonight involves Leela. Wrongo. Seriously, why would a site formerly named The Leela Zone do something featuring Leela? I mean come on. No, this one is about Brainspawn. And just to be different, it's a poem about Brainspawn and it's the third and last item from a pile of stuff that Crystalmask sent in.

Can't find an appropriate picture for this one. It's part 2 of Amathyst's Fan Fiction What Lurks Beneath in which New New York is reeling under the great hoop skirt crisis, so that fact that a few citizens and animals are going missing is hardly noticed? Is it the work of some deranged, senile old scientist, or something altogether more sinister? And is Leela actually considering going out with Fry? Or is the world just ending? Read on and find out.
The long and short of it is ...
Posted on May 23, 2010 by Tim
I'm back, dead tired, and sorting out the stuff that came in while I was away. 'till I get that all figured out, here's four things that relieve the terrible loneliness my mailbox was suffering from last week - it's a set of four drabbles from Crystalmask. For those that might not know it, Wikipedia defines a drabble as “an extremely short work of fiction exactly one hundred words in length, although the term is often incorrectly used to indicate a short story of fewer than 1000 words”. And what we have here, touching on a few of the minor characters from Futurama are these four short fics, two of which are really drabbles weighing in at exactly 100 words: The Countess de la Roca drabble and the Mrs. Mellinger drabble; and the other two, the Trisolian drabble and the Flexo and Angleyne drabble are just a bit over that.
You got metal fever, boy
Posted on May 18, 2010 by Tim
I'll just let Kaspired tell it: “As soon as I saw the robot/cyborg Leela lots of questions jumped into my little brain. For starters would Fry still lust after a metal Leela? Everything that made Leela Leela is inside the machine. Would Bender start hitting on her? Will they keep this robot after Leela is healed? Or is she going to stay 'dead'? Are the other 'dead' crew getting the robot treatment? A robot Dr Z, urgh (shudder, shudder)! Too many questions. Here are a couple of answers…”

Good news everyone! Thanks to a sudden influx of stuff my mail box isn't quite so lonely and cobwebbey as it's been lately. Bad News everyone! I taking off for a few days to a place with no tv and no internet, which is where I'll be a little over a month from now when Rebirth debuts so call this a practice run. That means that things are going to be a little quiet around here for the next few days unless one of the mostly absentee landlords happens to show up. Good news everyone! I'll have lots to do when I get back. Well, got to skedoodle-oodle. See ya.
Freakin' Sweet!
Posted on May 17, 2010 by Tim
Random chance, cosmic anomaly, or subtle promotion of Futurama? All of the above? Pat Buchanan? It's your vote as to why Bender appeared last night on the new Family Guy episode “The Splendid Source”. We have Brian, head honcho over at our buddie Freakin' Sweet News to thank for the framegrabs. Brian says that Bender's part was only for about a second and that he didn't speak, just waved his arms about! I find that hard to imagine. I mean, Bender not having anything to say, that's never happened before.

Got a twofer tonight. Two completely different things from Crystalmask. The first is this photo of her “Bender DVD thingy wearing a tiny Mexican sombrero” And for the next two we venture into another part of the Madhouse that hasn't seen much action of late - Futurama Animated Gifs. The gold one is an avatar of a robot kitty Calculon she made and she says that once she realized how cute it was, the fog hat gray robot kitty bender soon followed (what the heck is a 'fog hat'? Sounds like a name for a '70's band).

And another freakin' sweet thing tonight is the latest teaser from Countdown to Futurama - a storyboard of Leela “sweating like a sow” from 6acv02 aka In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela. I'm guessing she's wearing fig leaf underwear. Must be the latest thing in 3010.
Now all I need is a fancy new graphics tablet
Posted on May 16, 2010 by Tim
And even I could start drawing Fan Art 'cause we've got these fancy new “how to draw” references charts. Those that have the DVD sets will remember something like these from one of those. Well, this is essentially them. Futurama_Freak1 grabbed all of the frames and pieced them together in a format suitable for “printing out and sticking them to your wall with glue or something I don't know”. They're in Miscellaneous Pictures at the moment, but I may move them to a better spot, once I figure out where that is.
Leela is hot!
Posted on May 15, 2010 by Tim
Well guh! That's kind of the central tenet of Futurama, isn't it? Anyway, that's what one person said upon seeing this pic from 6acv02 on Countdown to Futurama and in case you haven't seen the latest or are to lazy to go look, you can get to them from our very own Upcoming Episodes page. The countdown site doesn't say much about them, in fact, if you go read what they do say, you'd almost swear Graham was writing it. So it seems that we're left to conjecture by ourselves, and if the movies taught us anything, it's that those conjectures will all be wrong.

Koen Bolhuis took pity on my poor, empty mail box and sent in some sketches of Bender. Bender seems confused. He's also seems to be pointing at all that stuff I just wrote. Is he confused about the new episodes or by my ramblings? He shouldn't be confused by the episodes 'cause he's in them. Of course, beyond drinking, smoking, and stealing (not necessarily in that order) he probably doesn't care what the skintubes are up to.
Oh the horror! Bender and Disco!
Posted on May 13, 2010 by Tim
Has everyone been keeping up with the latest developments at Countdown to Futurama? The birthing machine, ok, that could go anywhere; knowing Farnsworth it's probably going to end up working like a Play-Doh fun factory. And then there's the robotic Leela - lot's of speculation possibilities there, like a malfunction of the aforementioned device. And the storyboard showing an allegedly dying Bender, which I'm gonna guess is the result of disco not being very popular in the future, which just goes to show that people will have way more sense a thousand years from now then they did back in the 70's.

And we know that the second episode will be called In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela and the speculation is it's the one where Leela and Zapp are stranded on a planet somewhere. What the rest of the PE crew are up to is anyone's guess. My guess is we'll find out for sure in either 42 or 49 more days. Anyway, you can check them out right here at the Madhouse in the Upcoming Episodes parlor.

Which leads to one last item for the benefit of everyone who has been throwing harpoons and other sharp and smelly objects at me about the length of the premiere. Countdown keeps saying “The one-hour season premiere of Futurama airs Thursday, June 24 at 10pm / 9c.”. Is it one one-hour long episode or two regular half-hour episodes back to back? One correspondent stated “Rebirth is a Fry and Leela episode, and In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela is a Leela and Zapp episode, no way those two make sense as a single story.”. Well, no one ever said the Entertainment industry had to make sense.
Instant gratification, no waiting.
Posted on May 9, 2010 by Tim
Things is quiet. Too quiet. Must be everyone is saving up for the new season 'cause the old in-box has been empty of late. So much so that these 2.78 things just came in today. And, as you might guess, the first thing that dropped through the mail slot is a few Cubert's Rants. Trevin Bernhard take a few pot shots at the annoying little know-it-all in The Cryonic Woman.
Yet another Fan Art by The Futurama Point

Rush has whipped up two videos that he's put on YouTube. The first one is called Nixon's And Agnew's Song and it's pretty much summed up by “Nixon says Aroo, Agnew says Rrrrrrr&rdquol. His other video is a slide show compilation of all of his Fan Art presented in the order that it went up here on FM/TLZ. Not coincidentally, it's called TLZ (The Leela Zone) Futurama Madhouse Rush's Fan Art In Order By Update. Now there's a mouthful.
I reserve the right to say "I told you so"

Geeze, you just never know. I've posted all kinds of fun stuff here - comics about lesbian Leelas, slash art of Fry and Bender, fan art that was misconstrued as a fifth movie, fan fics dealing with female Frys - all kinds of stuff that should have provoked comment. And I can positively say that I've never gotten as much flack as I have when I quoted Comedy Central by saying that the premier episode would be an hour long. Hoo, boy. What a flame fest. It seems that everybody knows (apparently based on the alleged words of a writer that no one can actually find) that it's really going to be the first two episodes back to back. Everybody that is except me and Comedy Central, whose official return of Futurama website, Countdown to Futurama, still says “the premiere is an hour!”. Hmmm. Well, in 48 days we'll know for sure. Meanwhile, I've learned a whole bunch of new words and phrases, like “Hab Sosli Quch!!”.     Fan Art by The Futurama Point

So, setting all of that aside for a bit, let's get back to the business at hand. Here's a really dusty corner of the Madhouse: 3D Art. It's so dusty that there's only four things in there and it's been a year since the last contribution. But that's all changed now 'cause Koen Bolhuis did this 3D picture of Bender using Google SketchUp.

And this is a just for fun pencil sketch Fan Art from Futurama_Freak1. It's actually two independent pictures - just random poses - but one can't help but wonder if they were one picture, what the story behind it is. Hey, I know what would be fun - calling all Fan Fic writers, write a short story explaining this picture. Word limit: some medium sized prime number; deadline: whenever.
lol disregard that

Tim's statement that the "Rebirth" episode will be an hour long is, unfortunately, incorrect. The première is an hour long, because they are airing the two first episodes of the coming season at the same time.

It's fair though, as several sources have falsely reported it as being one episode, but Eric Rogers via Twitter have confirmed that they will air the first two episodes on the same day. And some sources does get it right.

For more information on these episodes, please see http://theinfosphere.org/Rebirth and http://theinfosphere.org/6ACV02 on the Infosphere. And we apologise for the confusion.
Countdown to Futurama!
Posted on May 5, 2010 by Tim
Good News Everyone! It's absolutely official now - The long-awaited sixth season of Futurama premieres Thursday, June 24 at 10pm EDT and the initial episode Rebirth will be one hour long!. So says Comedy Central on their new Countdown to Futurama website where every weekday from now until the premiere (Which is an hour, did I mention that? Yeah, the premiere is an hour!), they'll be posting stills, storyboards, videos and other never-before-seen junk from the new episodes to help make the waiting a little easier.

But wait, there's more! Comedy Central also has a Facebook page for Futurama, and starting today they're uploading sneak peaks of the new season on said Facebook page. Today, for instance, they've uploaded this disturbing framegrab of the final shot from the 3 minute sneak peak we got several months back. The good news is you don't have to have an account to see all the goodies!

Next, have you ever wondered what Hypnotoad is really like, or what Zoidberg's favorite pizza topping is, or any of a myriad of imponderable questions that we've been asking each other repeatedly for the last seven years (only five in my case)? Well here's your chance - Comedy Central is interviewing DXC and Matt Groening later this month and they're taking questions from the fans! People can submit their questions here.

Tons of thanks to Officer 1BDI and Futurama_Freak1 for the tips.
Hey, Caclulon's on!
Posted on May 3, 2010 by Tim
But Fry doesn't seem too interested. Maybe he wants to go hit on Leela, or maybe he knows if he sits down in front of the TV with Bender he'll wake up with a hangover and missing his wallet and a few organs. I love the future. You can decide for yourself in this new Fan Art from Koen Bolhuis.

A while back, Rush sent in a couple of cryptic Fan Arts that he wouldn't say any more about. Well now we know the secret, because they relate to a Fan Fiction which he's just release the second part of. It's called Bending Wars and we find out a little more about the Servant of Morbend and the Cross of Morbend (imagine spikey thinks on the letters of those names - most web browsers won't yet let me force a download of Medieval Thorn Bold font ).

Rush also sent four more of his “Bender is ...” Fan Arts. This one is Bender as a bus stop sign (that's what bus stop signs look like where Rush is from - except, I assume, for the cigar and surely demeanor).
Futurama comes back next month!
Posted on May 2, 2010 by Tim
That's right, we can say that now, 'cause it's May and the new season will be here next month! It just feels soo good to say that ... next month! next month! next month! Woo Hoo! And we can't wait!

Many moons ago, Just Nibblin' started crafting a Fan Fiction of truly epic proportions called Rush Moon. Just about as many moons ago, Graham Dawson started crafting a promo pic for same which he has now completed, and here it is. Let's hope that it will inspire Just Nibblin' to continue with the fic.
