Get a move on, Graham, we have Leila fans waiting!
Posted on May 28, 2007 by Graham
OK, Leila, I'm nearly there. I'm just to the right of your browser, so keep your hair on, will you. There, I'm now at my seat and typing all these wonderful words. No, I haven't spelt Leela's name wrong; I haven't been away that long. I'm referring to Leila, who contributes some nice work for our Fan Art section. As you can see if you look to the right of these words, Leila has been busy making a picture of Leela, who is seemingly calling out to someone, likely to be at Fry to get his lazy arse to complete a delivery or two. Suffice it to say, if you're a Leela fan, then you'll be a Leila fan. No need to split things up due to a vowel or two.

BTW, heed the wise words of Tim, for he brings good news and plenty of cookies. Well, OK, not cookies, but some competition that'll get you winning the biggest prize of all: kudos. Yes, for several million kudos, all you need to do is come up with some Futurama Madhouse-based fan art to celebrate our coming eighth birthday, which comes up in a couple of months. Yes, we'll even throw in a few more million kudos for the winner. See how generous we are. We're practically giving kudos away!
Calling all Futurama fans
Posted on May 27, 2007 by Tim
It's May 27th (Ok, for some of you that are in the earlier time zones it may already be May 28th, but work with me here) and of course we all know what that means, right? No? Well let me tell you then - it's exactly two months before July 27, which is the date that Futurama Madhouse's direct predecessor site The Leela Zone went live in 1999 (apparently during the first commercial break of SP3000 ). Yes, the Oldest Living Futurama Fan Site will be 8 years old in exactly two months and we thought it'd be fun to celebrate that, so we're issuing a call for everyone to create a piece of Happy Birthday FM/TLZ themed Fan Art.

This isn't a contest - there won't be any judging or prizes or such - just an opportunity to have some fun and wish your favorite site Happy Birthday. You don't even have to be an artist, heck, even I'm going to scribble together something, and my drawings look like Rorschach inkblot tests made with cat vomit and wouldn't even qualify as crap art.

Send your drawings to me and I'll collect them all together and on July 27, we'll post 'em all. Please say something like "Happy Birthday FMTLZ fanart" or "Your Grandmother wears combat boots" or some such in your subject line, message, or picture so I know what it's for.
Journey to the Center of a Mysterious World's Moon
Posted on May 26, 2007 by Tim
Being lazy like I've occasionally been accused of, I like it when I can get someone else to do the hard work for me. So I'll let today's Fan Art contributor Outlaw Art tell it in his own words: "This is what I've discovered about the plot of this unknown film from various sources on the internet... Leela leads an expeditionary team into the very bowels of a hollow moon near a forbidden world. Unforeseen dangers are encountered, terrifying beasts are run away from and the very future of mankind may be in jeopardy! On a lighter note, after the perilous trek through the lava cavern, Leela and Amy will skinny-dip in a pool cavern to recover from the sweltering heat. Oh yeah, naked Futurama, baby! Some may question the date on this photo. I'm only guessing here, but 30th Century Fox probably opened a time portal and made this film over 40 years ago, but since they haven't done it yet in the future, it doesn't really exist right now in our era. Now, how the photo came into being, I dunno... cause I haven't done it yet either! This time travel thing confuses me. But anyway... way cool, now I don't actually have to do the art, because I already did it... I think!?!"

All righty then. That all sounds like it would make an excellent plot for a Fan Fiction (hint hint ). But while we're waiting for someone from the future to go into the past and write it, and while we're on the subject of journeys to mysterious worlds, we'll have time to read the new one from Enhas called A Second Chance, which is about a journey to a different kind of mysterious world. This is a compilation of two of his previous fics, Love into Death and Know the Answer into one story.
Time makes fools of us all ...
Posted on May 24, 2007 by Tim
... or something like that. And speaking of time, the latest thing to grace our Fan Art section comes from someone we haven't heard from in some time, coldangel_1, who says "I got a spare moment and threw this together...". Man, I don't know about you but I wish I had a few spare moments like that. Anyway what he "threw together" is the killer Fry-bot going mano a mano with Roberto from Insane in the Mainframe.

The actual quote that tonights headline is from is "See, it used to be milk and, well, time makes fools of us all." - words to live by from Phillip J. Fry. Which plays into a nice bit of Fan Fiction by JustNibblin', his first, called Death Clock Countdown. It's in a whopping 8 parts and it revolves around what happens when the Professor creates a revised death clock. Fry and Leela race against time, Hermes sees cost savings in the company health plan, Bender sees a profit opportunity, Zoidberg nibbles a boot, Scruffy wears a kilt, Amy saves Kif, Zapp and Fry discuss gardening, and a butter knife makes a guest star appearance. Warning: story has 30% shipper content by volume. Plot may settle during shipping.
Feast or Famine

Since the old mail box has been mighty quiet recently I figured it'd be safe to sneak out of town for a couple of days so I talked Graham into giving me the weekend off (without pay of course) and took off. Naturally, that's when a whole bunch of people decided to send me stuff. So everyone who sent me stuff in the last few days, please be patient and I'll have all your stuff up in the next few days.

So just for starters, a couple of onesies. First off is a spot of Fan Art from a new contributor named VoodooFrog with this rendition of Professor Farnsworth.

Item number two tonight is a new Wallpaper sent in by Unregistered. I'm not sure what Bender is sad about but knowing him it's just an act to get his picture on the front page of the Madhouse.

Like I said, I've got a bunch more stuff that will appear over the next few days so check back early and often. If you were just about to send something, don't let that stop you, more is better. Also, Fan Artists, sharpen your crayons and watch this page for a special announcement to be made Real Soon Now.
Futurama rox and so do we
Posted on May 14, 2007 by Tim
So after a while there where the Fan Art was pouring in daily we seem to have hit a dry spell. Other than some very attractive offers to participate in all kinds of foreign lotteries and some people wanting my help getting their money out of African banks, there's only been a couple of Futurama related items hitting my mailbox.

The first was a nice note from Stacey Zoidberg alias Voodoofrog who wrote to tell us what a great site FM is. In fact, todays headline is taken almost word for word from her message. See the nice thing is that you don't have to be a writer or an artist to get recognition here - if I'm desperate enough for content even a simple thank you note becomes newsworthy. Thanks for writing Stacey.

So the bottom line is that I don't have any pictures to show you, but we did get a couple of bits of Fan Fiction:

First up - the long awaited part 5 of ELF's Back to the Futurama which, if you were paying attention way back last November, you'll recall is a parody of the Back to the Future movies. Let's go catch up with the PE crew way back in 1991.

The other is a new one from Enhas called A November Afternoon. There are some people who are content and thankful for what they have and for whom sudden surprises can threaten to change all that they know about the world around them. Phillip J. Fry is one such person, and when the doorbell rings one November afternoon, he never expected that everything could change ...

So that's all for now, the in-box is empty again. Please send more (or just write an tell us how great we are)
Shippy Rulz

Today's theme seems to be shippy. It's amazing sometimes how a random collection of submissions can contain a common thread, but then I guess I shouldn't be surprised since we are talking Futurama and Fry and Leela here. So first off we've got three more pieces of Fan Art from Gwynhwyfar. This one's called The Real Wedding which must mean the one that all fan fiction authors are always writing about and not the all to brief one from Time Keep on Slippin'.

And speaking of Fan Fiction we have a new one from Ramon_51 entitled These Mist Covered Mountains. It picks up where Gladiatrix left off. Leela, Fry, and Bender find themselves stuck in the middle of a brush war at an isolated jungle camp at the outbreak of an offensive. Not a setting for shippyness you think? Guess again and read on. Oh, and look for a glimpse into the future too.
Celebrations are in order...

What a match this years Champions League final is going to be. A repeat of the 2005 final between the best damn football club in the world (outside of Denmark that is ), Liverpool, and some Italian team. Hopefully with the same result as last time.

So how do we celebrate this joyous occasion you ask? With Fan Art ofcourse. First in line is Reba1X, with 4 new pictures. The thumb show Da Vinci's famous painting Mona Lisa, as it might have looked if the PE crew engaged in more time travel than usual. But check out the rest too.

Btw, keep an eye out for that young lad who scored the crucial 1:0 goal for LFC, Daniel Agger. He's going to be a mainstay in the LFC starting squad for many years.

Anyways, we continue our update with a new artist; Unregistered. The picture was originally supposed to be an avatar, but, like the Energizer Bunny, it just kept going and going and going until it turned into a Fan Art. Pretty neat.

Final remark (promise); The fact that Man United stumbled in the semis is just icing on the cake. Not that they care, they have the national championship practically in the hand.

So, next in line is MrBungle3 (with the more konventionel name of Bård Hovde) bringing us 3 new pictures. The thumbnail show Zoidberg sporting some fancy martial art moves, or maybe he's dancing or holding up the ceiling or begging for food. It's difficult to tell with him sometimes. Suffice to say, he's doing something, and that's better than what he usual do.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed tonights update / Champions League report (unless you're from America or Australia, in which chances are good you don't care much for football), I'll leave you with a final picture from razl_man showing Evil Fry. You can tell he's evil from his goatee .... and his inverted colors ... and his skull tattoo. Or you can just take my word for it. Don't forget to see it in full size.

More Fan Art coming soon. Until then...
Deep Thoughts
Posted on May 2, 2007 by Tim
One of the more interesting facets of this job is every time you receive a new e-mail, you never know what might be lurking in there. Most of the time it's routine stuff, but every once in a while there is something really out of the ordinary. Today for example I find this note from a Chris Wood in the UK who wrote to say "Hello, I would just like to offer my thanks to your website. I've just completed an undergraduate dissertation on Futurama and your episode transcripts and guides proved to be an invaluable resource.". He goes on to say "I'm a student in Media & Popular Culture and my dissertation is titled: 'Futurama: The Future Is Now - how Futurama uses the discourses and aesthetic of science fiction to critique contemporary social issues.'.

Whew, that was a mouthful. Thanks for writing Chris, it's always nice to know we made a difference. Now I guess we can claim Oldest Living Futurama Fansite and respected academic resource.

Speaking of Deep Thoughts, we have two new Fan Fictions. The first is from Enhas. Following hot on the heels of his recent Love Into Death comes a new and related fic called Know The Answer. It's the same events, but told from Fry's perspective.

The other one is from Ramon_51 entitled Double Jeopardy. It's the third installment in his Galatic Agent Gal series. In this one, Fry is off to Mars on vacation while Leela embarks on her first real mission as an agent of the Galactic Intelligence Agency.

That's enough deep thoughts for one night. I know Graham has a tidbit or two up his sleeve, but his OS of the month club CD came today and he's reloading his computer, so watch for that in a couple of days. Meanwhile, feel free to flood our mailboxes with more stuff.
