Happy (somewhat belated) Birthday Futurama
Posted on March 30, 2014 by Tim
Ok, so I'm a couple of days late, insert standard excuse here. But, a couple of days ago, Futurama celebrated it's 15th birthday, and Awalex felt that there should be a birthday party with women jumping out of a cake, so here it is! It's been a great fifteen years, and here's to another great fifteen years.

Woo Hoo! Lots for yummy Fan Comic goodness today, because Pieter Antonissen has sent in a whole bunch (13) of new pages to his comic Four Better or For Worse. Packed into those pages we get to see Zapp leading a search and rescue and find out all kinds of cool things like where Mr. Pitt's people come from and how Amy turns Mutant Atomic Superboys into Mutant Atomic Supermen. The new stuff starts on page 159.

And say "Hello" to new contributor Spaceman130 who sends four new pics. Naturally there's a back story, and I'll let him tell it from here: “ At the time I drew them, I was playing a video game for PS3 called 'Vampire Rain: Altered Species', which is where the uniforms and weapons were inspired from. If you're not familiar with it, it's a stealth action game. Basically, you play as part of a four-member team that goes around Los Angeles trying to exterminate vampire-like creatures called 'Nightwalkers' that can disguise themselves as humans and attack with superhuman speed and strength. I thought it'd be a fun idea to swap modern day L.A. for 31st century New New York City and have Fry, Leela, Bender and Hermes be a combat unit dealing with these creatures in their own universe (think the Simpsons mod for Doom). I chose to draw them because I found them to be the most suitable replacement characters for the original characters in the game. There's a few parts where you have to go through sewers and even a mission where you have to escort a professor. Similarities like those made me come up with the idea for crossing VR:AS with Futurama.”.
They had to start somewhere ...

A long time ago, in a reality far, far away, we ran a fun little competition called Real World Futurama where people found things in the real world with Futurama related names on them and sent in photos. Well, whoo'd a thunk, but a couple of days ago another one shows up. Lord Nibbler found this pic of the now abandoned Wong Grocery Company store (est. 1901) - obviously the Wong clan had to get their start somewhere. He didn't say where it was located, but you can check this and all the other findings in Fan Photos / Real World Futurama.

That concludes the SHOW part of today's update. Now the TELL, actually a couple of them, in the form of Fan Fictions. First up is a new on called Piss on the Hydrant by Zoey Webber and it tells the tale of Bender entering the PE crew in a worst costume contest. Fry goes as a fire hydrant, but naturally he's got a piece missing, and it's all downhill from there.

And next is part 7 of Dwayne Anderson's Space Age Doofus. Check it out and catch up on the latest going on in the Aniverse and how Fry is a looser there too.
Do not try this at home (or in your car)

Or someone elses car in which you are riding. This new Fan Art from Awalex shows us why we shouldn't cover the driver's eye(s), play with the controls, or wave finglongers in front of their noses. Do that and you might rear end some other show, and that would be bad. It is nice to know that even a thousand years in the future cars will still be available with stick shifts and fake wood grain finishes.

And dusting off some HTML code I have'nt used in a while, heres two new pics from Hektious - a sketch of Amy and a painting of Kif.

Ok, so things have been a little quiet lately. In fact, the only thing to come in is a new Fan Fiction from Zoey Webber. It's called When Ants Attack. It's set in the aftermath of the great casino heist of Viva Mars Vegas; read and watch as Bender gets busted for trying to build an illegal casino of his own, until he hears of a planet called Sandhill where ants live and where human rule don't apply. That's when he makes his move and Fry, Leela, Hermes, Amy, and Zoidberg are forced to help.
