Love the Owl Exterminator
Posted on December 30, 2008 by Tim
Ok, 'cause I've been gone and it's been several days, I've got lots of stuff today. So let's get down to biz with some “what I got fox Xmas” action. FMMB member FryGuy has this really cool sister who leveraged his Futurama addiction into a couple of really inexpensive cool Xmas gifts by making him two shirts. This one says “I The Tentacle” and the other one “I'm an Owl exterminator”. I bet he's going to have to do a lot of explaining when he wears them to family gatherings and school. Or maybe not.

And a couple of Fan Fictions, both entries in the recent TSFFC writing competition. First up, taking the coveted third place in the contest, is THM's entry Leela Lets Her Hair Down. It's shipfic, after a fashion, as Leela looks back and reflects how a small alteration in hairstyle ended up changing a lot more than she thought it would.

The second one is from Smarty, who has the luxury of being able to draw and write, hence this promo pic for her entry, Darkness Surrounding. It tells the tale of Fry and Leela when they go on a mission to deliver a small time machine prototype and they get sucked into a wormhole, which warps them to Earth 10 years later where war has broken out.

And to wrap things up, a bunch more Wallpapers from BackToTheFuturama - 2ACV09 through 15 this time.
TTwwwiiinnnnkkkiiiiessss!
Posted on December 26, 2008 by Tim
“It's Xmas, not Valentine's Day” is what is says in this new Fan Art from Fry+Leel4eva. It shows them snatching a smooch under the mistletoe, which I always thought was more of a New Years kind of gig, but hey, if I were Fry, I wouldn't be complaining.

So, about TTwwwiiinnnnkkkiiiiessss! Did you know that they are one of the most illegal foods in the entire galaxy and that they were outlawed back in 2492? Yep, it says so right here in soylentOrange's latest Fan Fiction called Resident Leevil. This was an entry in the recent TSFFC writing competition and it tells the story of what happens when a mysterious package addressed to Bender appears at Planet Express. When it's opened, chaos ensues, and Leela ends up beating the stuffing out of Fry over a pit of boiling lava. Also, there are zombies.
(fan art from the archive of Erdrik)

Now here's something you don't see very often - I think this is only the third one I've done in as many years. We have this dusty corner of the Madhouse known as the Poetry and Song Parodies section, and DSS sent in one of the latter. It's called Savin' Leela and it's set to Savin' Me by Nickelback.

And lastly but not leastly, before Rush starts thinking I forgot about him, here's a short update to his Universe Jumping Bender Fan Fiction wherein we learn why Bender is bouncing between universes at random, and that the ridiculously long acronym the Professor has come up with for his latest invention, which is in not way responsible for the aforementioned robot problem.

Technically, it's still Xmas where I am, even though the FM/TLZ software runs on GMT and thinks it's tomorrow already, I can still wish everyone a happy holiday. I put up a few more things than I normally would today because I've got a lot, and also because tomorrow I'm off to the land the Internet forgot for a few days to do the Xmas thing with the other half of the family. Yes, I know, it's a shock - I do have a life outside of the Madhouse. So anyway, things might be a little slow around here for a few days unless I decide that it would be fun to try to upload something over a 19k dial up link, just for old times sake.
The truth about Xmas
Posted on December 25, 2008 by Tim
You don't wanna know. Oh, no, no. God, no! But I'm gonna tell you anyway, 'cause it's Xmas. So here's the scoop - multimedia whiz BackToTheFuturama has been dipping into the eggnog and whipped up another one of his Futurama movie trailers, just in time for the holidays. This one is the Santa's Slay movie trailer reformulated with our favorite (and not so favorite) 'ramaverse characters. And what could be better to celebrate a 21st century Xmas with than some 31st century murder and mayhem? Well, Ok, maybe some of that eggnog sweetened with a wee drop of archonix's best single malt hooch but not much else.

All this talk of eggnog has me thirsty, so I'm gonna keep it short 'cause I know a lot of people that are reading this will have a lot of other things to do today. Plus that way I can run off and help myself to a glass of eggnog. So, for the third year in a row, it's my privilege to say Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays from all of us here at Futurama Madhouse. Oh, and Santa, if you happen to be checking this site, all I want for Xmas is more Futurama episodes.
'Tis the season to be jolly!
Posted on December 23, 2008 by Graham
Here I am bringing you good tidings and joy. During this time of the year, you're meant to be enjoying yourself, feeling good about things, feeling good about others, and just having a right ol' party. Paper hats, those parping things that roll out when you blow into them (forgotten what they're called), streamers, beer/wine/brandy, party games, eating to excess, etc, are all the things that should be occupying you all, but spare a thought for those who are miserable. Yes, even during this time of the year, there are some who aren't enjoying themselves. No, I'm not referring to those that hate Xmas. I'm not referring to those who have to put up with Noddy Holder screaming "It's Christmas" coming from the neighbour's house for the umpteenth time. I'm not even referring to Santa's other reindeers that don't get appreciated because they don't have an abnormal coloured nose. No, I'm referring to red-headed delivery boys who are desperately seeking love. I'm referring to one-eyed mutant women who realise that maybe they're a bit late making the move. I'm referring to the never ending saga of the Fry and Leela will she/won't he thingy that seems to occupy the thoughts of quite a few Futurama fans. / / / As you can see, I have a picture to your right. The picture comes from a new contributor to our Fan Art section, but who isn't a new contributor to the site, AmZ Future. The picture you see shows Leela kissing a dying Fry, so it's not exactly a 'tis the season to be jolly sort of picture. Mind you, at least Fry has got Leela's attention. But he's dying. But at least he's dying with a smile on his face. But Leela won't be able to enjoy his love after he dies. Still, 'tis the season to be jolly.

Keeping with the jolly theme, I have a fan fic that comes from, lo-and-behold, AmZ Future. This new fiction is titled Dear Diary..., and deals with the written words that have been penned in Fry's diary during the Xmas period. Did I mention that Leela is also in this? Oh, and so are some other characters, like Bender, Amy, Zoidberg and Napoleon. Oh, wait, that last one isn't in the show... I think. There's also Leela, too, like I mentioned above, and it seems that Fry has a longing that involves her. Oh well, 'tis the season to be jolly.

If I'm not updating in the next day or two, then may I wish you all a merry Xmas. As I've been saying again and again, 'tis the season to be jolly!
They're giving out the minor technical awards. I think they're up to writing.

Annd we're back! With more Wallpaper from BackToTheFuturama. 2ACV05 through 2ACV08 in this batch.

And this particular wallpaper that I chose to illustrate tonights update with is also sort of applicable to this next item as it has to do with awards of a sort. In the last couple of weeks, we've featured a couple of Fan Fictions that were entries in the 2008 Writing Competition over at TSFFC. Well the competition is over, the judges, apparently using blunt instruments, have rendered their decisions, and this next fic was awarded second place. And since first place went to a fic of another genre, it means that this one was judged the top Futurama fan fic entry. It's called Michelle Shock and it's by Red_Line. In it, Fry and Leela are happily married and expecting their first child when a just as pregnant Michelle shows up claiming Fry is the father. Things get a little dicey in the Fry household as a result and it falls to Bender to sort things out.

I'm not sure, at this time of night, that I have sufficient mental capacity left to come up with the appropriate words to describe this next Fan Fiction. Epic just doesn't seem adequate. But as there's 29 chapters and I've only got 5 of them put up so far, I'll have plenty of time to think of some more words. So, like I said, here are the first 5 chapters of Graham Dawson's Parallel Lives - Where I Belong. It's the second book in his majestic narrative, our adventurers encounter a universe where Fry never traveled to the Future, discover the danger their journey represents, and find out just how precarious their existence really is. And it's got this really cool promo pic to go with it.
Tales of the dark and unexplored
Posted on December 21, 2008 by Tim
If you were to peruse FM/TLZ's fine Fan Photos section, you'll find a couple of pics of the back ends of vehicles with our URL spread across them. Well now we have one more fan who has decorated their car with their favorite website. Said person is Hammer87 and if it looks like his car is parked on the kitchen floor, that's 'cause it is - since in this particular case it's a 1/18th scale radio controlled Xray M18. He had the Futurama Madhouse decal made at a hobby shop near his home. It's vinyl with foghat gray lettering.

“Forests are like people’s minds. They’re dark and unexplored. There’s mystery lurking in every corner, and things fester in places without you knowing about them. To enter is to explore the undiscovered self.” Lars Fillmore, an ordinary boy of fourteen, is dissatisfied with how boring life has become. His parents are no help, and he's just about given up on life. Just when everything looks hopeless, a girl named Leela appears and shows him a more exciting side of life. Everything seems to be fine, but what fate has in store for Lars turns “exciting&rdquo into “terrifying” when he and Leela start exploring the dark and unexplored. It's all there in a new Fan Fiction by James Prospect. It's called A Beautiful Girl.

And an interesting tidbit from the e-mail box - Bob writes in regards to yesterday's news item about a potential new season, he says "Wouldn't a new season be Season 7 (SO7/6ACV)?". Errr ... um .. well, technically, yeah, I guess it probably would. Thinking about it though, the original episodes are packaged as four seasons following the production code order, so if the movies were split up into epps those might be considered Season 5. And if there were in fact new episodes on the event horizon, those would logically be Season 6. Bob, ever the pragmatist, goes on to say “I'm gonna wait to cheer until someone a bit closer to an official source than Xmas help at Amazon says something”. As much as I hate to admit it, that's probably real good advice.
Nothing is impossible, not if you can imagine it!
Posted on December 19, 2008 by Tim
That's one of the main principles of Futurama, and the thing Futurama fans imagine the most is more episodes. And since the first rumors of the new movies have come out - probably since before that even - there's been one thing that's been at the top of our wish list: More Futurama. So today the old e-mail inbox contains this snippet from Ralph Snart:

“A little mystery here. I received an e-mail advert for Amazon.com's new Futurama Store. Perusing through, I found this little item to click on.

Being the curious type, I sent an e-mail to Amazon.com for more details about Season Five. I asked if it was going to be the DVDs of the movies repackaged as being episodes from Comedy Central. This was the response:

Season Five will consist of 18 new episodes of Futurama. No release date is available.

So gang, do we have a mystery here? The Movie DVDs would make 16 episodes - is there some sort of game afoot? Like maybe some deal that hasn't been released to the public?

There are always possibilities.”

Indeed there are! Exciting news if true.
300 steps forward, two steps back
Posted on December 18, 2008 by Tim
I missed out on number 200 because of a software bug, but not this time. This is my 300th update here at the Madhouse! And as I've been doing this webmaster shtick for 843 days now, that means that on average there's been one update slightly less than every three days (things were a little slow back at the beginning). Lately it's more like one every day and a half.

Ok, enough math. You may recall that I have mentioned a time or two recently that there was a writing contest over at TSFFC. Well there were lots of great entries and the winners were supposed to be announced last Sunday. Trouble was, there were too many really good entries and they're just having a awful time deciding who won. And in a difficult situation like that, the best thing to do is ... take off on holiday. So while they contemplate the nuances of Fan Fiction and enjoy fruity drinks on the sunny beaches of Sweden we can at least enjoy one of the entries in said contest, Singer1108's first venture into the dark realm of prose, Rescue Me, in which, after a long space delivery, things between Fry and Leela change. Nine months later, they're bringing a baby home, but when Fry gets cocky about driving in a storm, things take a turn for the worse.

So those were the last of the 300 steps forward; the two steps back came when BackToTheFuturama wrote and said I'd screwed up the Wallpapers. Oops. Hey, it's easy to get a little cross eyed looking at those lists of files. Anyway, they're fixed, and four more, for episodes 2ACV01 through -04 have been uploaded as well.
OBEY MOM or else Bender might just pop out of an alternate universe and choke you
Posted on December 17, 2008 by Tim
Huzzah! Some Fan Art! Woo Hoo! This is from Ryno (who I'm pretty sure is a humanoid type and not one of those lumbering animals with the big horn out their nose) and it's one of those pictures that just makes you go "I wonder what the heck is going on there?". I mean you've got Fry in a DOOP uniform getting throttled by Bender - must be he tried to raid the wrong guys booze stash or something.

Remember the tanker truck that was leaving the Mombil dark matter mine in Bender's Game? Well, he who wishes to remain AAanymous has decoded the Alien 1 on the side and learned that it says OBEY MOM. Nothing subtle about that, is there?

Now here's an idea that's really kind of funny - imagine if a time sphere went a little wacko just as Bender jumped into it. Imagine the fun and mayhem if he (Bender) popped into and out of times and universes at random and not under his or anyone elses control. Things could get mighty weird mighty quick. And that very idea did occur to the fertile imagination of Rush in his latest Fan Fic called Universe Jumping Bender.
We have cover art!
Posted on December 15, 2008 by Tim
We now have the cover art for the fourth, and so far as we know at this time, final Futurama movie, Into The Wild Green Yonder. Thanks to La Belle Leela for the find. Tell us what you think it's about on the Into the Wild Green Yonder: speculation thread on FMMB.
Things that go bump in the night
Posted on December 15, 2008 by Tim
Proving once again the old proverb “quidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur”, we hereby present the first three parts of a new Fan Fiction by Jarmatus called The Silver Blade's Sweep. And I wouldn't read it late at night while you're all alone in your abode. Because ... well ... remember when they used to reassure you about the dark? They were wrong. There are things out there in the darkness. Things that, shall we say, go bump in the night - in a big way.

And don't forget, we've still got all those Wallapers that BackToTheFuturama sent in. I've got five more, 1ACV09 through 1ACV13, which finishes the first season. Only sixty two more to go.
A crummy world of plot holes and spelling errors and almost totally naked Leelas.
Posted on December 13, 2008 by Tim
That's what you'd have if Philip J. Fry wrote Fan Fiction, and you know it's true 'cause he said so himself. But we'll have none of that here; we do have two new fics, whether hey have plot holes or not, you'll have to decide.

The first is an AOI fic by Rush called Anthology Of Interest Unknown Number about which he says “Set in the aftermath of The Beast With A Billion Backs this is as random as hell and does not have to make sense”.

There are times when I'll spend quite a bit of time trolling through the Framegrabs and Fan Art sections looking for the perfect (or reasonable approximation thereof) picture to illustrate these fics. This time, I didn't have to, I knew right away where to find one. Problem is, it'll give away the whole plot. So you'll just have to go read Singer1108's latest fic On My Own. I can say however that this is set after her fic Mindless Attraction and in it, Leela decides that she and Fry needs some "space" (as if they don't get enough of that at work) and breaks up with him. It isn't long before she's having second thoughts, and she tells Amy a secret. Meanwhile, Bender is setting Fry up with someone else.

And now for the part that all of the horny adolescents (note to self, ask G if I can say "horny" on the main page) who found this site after doing a web search containing the word “naked” have been waiting for - Fanartist extraordinaire OutlawArt wrote to say that his web site Almost Totally Naked Futurama has a new home and is rapidly being reborn. And more Good News Everyone, he also goes on to say that he hopes to start producing more new stuff soon.
Just in time for Xmas
Posted on December 11, 2008 by Tim
Hey, look at this, another excuse to trot out our one and only screen shot from Into The Wild Green Yonder. And that excuse is a good one - 'cause the DVD is now available for pre-order from Amazon.com, as is the Blu-ray version. I am informed by knowledgeable sources that IWGY is currently numero 6043 on Amazon's DVD ranks right now, so let's all order two or three copies (Xmas is coming soon you know) and see if we can't push that up to “get Fox's attention” levels. Also, by using the links above, you'll be helping out The Oldest Living Futurama Fansite by putting a few coppers in our coffers.
Rumor has it that that Family Guy creator Seth McFarlene is going to be a special guest star in WGY. Interesting, right? Thanks to Enhas and DSS for the tips.

Speaking of DSS he's written a few Fan Fictions, all but one of which were take-offs on movies. I'm guessing his new one, called The Savager Mutant, is also, but I can't for the life of me figure out what (although I have this idea that it's in black and white and was shot on a budget of, oh, about fifty dollars). Anyway, after our intrepid crew makes a delivery to Bacterious 10, Leela's skin turns green, she grows saber teeth, and she develops a frog-like tongue. Fry is starting to think that there's something wrong with her.

And here's a surprise, more wallpapers from BackToTheFuturama! 1ACV05 through 1ACV08 today.
At this rate, we'll be done sometime in 2012
Posted on December 9, 2008 by Tim
One of the gotchas of writing Fan Fiction is that those crazy characters just won't always do what you want them to, and so even when you have a clear and concise idea of the story you want to tell, there are times when the unfrozen guy, the cyclops, and the robot just won't cooperate. And then there are other times when that annoying real life stuff gets in your way. I know the latter has happened to Daniel Leicester ('cause he told me so), and I suspect former has happened to him as well, because way back at part 7 he told me this epic would be done with part 8. So here's the long awaited part 9 of The Kroker Chronicles. In this one, our intrepid heroes race against time (and space) to save a code module that could save the universe in the the right hands and destroy it in the wrong hands. But as one battle ends, another is just beginning. And I assume the “TBC” at the end means “To Be Continued”.

And speaking of things that will take a while to crank through: eight down, seventy one more to go. Yup, four, count 'em, four more Wallpapers from BackToTheFuturama. Today featuring 1ACV01 through -04 with a side of chili fries.
Decypher These!
Posted on December 7, 2008 by Tim
The subject was “Some more wallpapers” and the message started “I have attached a zipped folder which contains some wallpapers.”. So I figured “Hey, great, a couple new wallpapers. Hmm, sure is taking a while to download. Uh oh, that's a 14 meg file!”. So, long story short, BackToTheFuturama has sent in 79 Wallpapers! They are the caption screens from each episode, the three movies so far, a plain one, one for Futurama Madhouse, and two “special” ones. I've got the first four up now and will be doing the rest as time permits, so we'll probably be seeing new wall papers until WGY comes out.

And over in Fan Fiction land is a new one from Rush. It's called Last T-P-D Of The Benders and I'm not allowed to reveal what T-P-D stands for. If I were to do that, Robot Santa would definitely be putting me on his naughty list, and you don't wanna know what happens then. Oh, no, no. God, no! Suffice to say that it's an alternate universe end to Bender's Big Score, asking the question what if Bender did the job right, putting the time code on Fry's ass in some other parallel universe, plus a few other “minor” complications.
Into The Wild Green Yonder
Posted on December 6, 2008 by Tim
The first review of Into The Wild Green Yonder is out and we've got it for you. The good folks over at screenjabber.com were kind enough to slip the scoop our way (and apparently to every other Futurama site on the planet) but we've got it first! Wheee!

What's it about you wonder? A few tidbits: ”Once again, the fate of the entire universe (and, very possibly, the universe next door) is in the hands of Philip J Fry and his friends at Planet Express. ... Leo Wong wants to demolish an entire arm of the Milky Way galaxy to make way for the biggest miniature-golf course in the universe ... Fry develop mind reading abilities when a piece of women's jewelry gets lodged in his brain. Which leads to him wearing a tinfoil hat to keep the voices out ... Bender starts having an affair with the burlesque-dancer wife of Donbot ... and Leela joins an eco-feminist collective and becomes an outlaw.“

Whew! That creates more questions than it answers, doesn't it? Read it all in detail here.
Go Bears. Rah team.

It looks like you can hire the PE crew for more than just deliveries. Check this out - Frosty writes “I finally got to uploading pictures from my camera and I found a picture of a poster I drew about a week before the Homecoming game and Fry, Leela, Bender, Kif, and Zapp are showing their school spirit (It also seems like Zapp is enjoying his outfit a little too much)” Well, that would be normal for Zapp. Oh, and I have it on good authority that they won the Homecoming game, smucking LP 54 to 7, so the PE crew really does deliver.

!iMmOrTaL! writes “The Wong Side of the Law is coming on along nicely and I've got 3 more pages finished and I thought that since that I've got a bit of free time, here is 3 pieces of Fan Art I created. The first is based on some art by Derek L. Thompson that I have 'tweaked' if you will. The second is a grab from Bender's Game (this scene always makes me laugh), and the last (pictured here) is a picture of Leela in her outfit from Futurama Comics #21 :More than a Filling. ENJOY!” Oh we will, we will.
What's he in such a big huff about?
Posted on December 3, 2008 by Tim
Yes, it looks like our friend the Robot Devil really has his bolts in a knot over something. Maybe Robot Hell froze over. Maybe the latest batch of souls didn't arrive on time. Maybe Bender is doing good deeds. Wait, what am I thinking? Whatever the case, it's a whole bunch of new Fan Art from MissusPatches. Prepare to be surprised.

And another two-fer - I don't know when CosmicF has time to sleep, 'cuase it seems like he's always cranking out Promo pics for people. In this case, it's for Hammer87's fic Honeymoon Interrupted of which part III has just been installed in the Fan Fiction section.
It is also appropriate that we just happened to lead off this update with a picture of the Robot Devil because, in an amusing and ironic coincidence, Hammer's part III is the 666th contribution that I've handled in my tenure here.
It's hot in here. Is it me or is something burning?
Posted on December 2, 2008 by Tim
Maybe it's a little of both. Promotional pics for Fan Fictions are all the rage these days it seems, and hey, why not? A picture is worth a thousand words our Chinese friends tell us. And this particular picture might be worth a few more than that, and in a couple of different languages no less (but not Chinese). So this pic was done by María M. Salazar and it's to promote her new fic Lost Time. We've only got the first part so it doesn't explain what's going on in the picture yet, but I guess we'll all be anxiously awaiting the next part. You've really got to give a lot of credit to someone who writes fan fic in other than their native language, which brings me to this: Para quienes hablan Español, y para quienes quieran aprender, María incluyó una versión en Español con el título Tiempo Perdido.

Here is todays' Futurama Madhouse helpful household hint #1729: do not put your robot or cell phone in the microwave oven for one minute. That is way to much and your robot or phone will come out tough and dry. We here at the FM kitchen recommend no more than 30 seconds max.
Some tales of Secrets and Corpses
Posted on December 1, 2008 by Tim
Geeze, with all of the other webmasters running around here all of a sudden it's hard to get a word in edgewise. But that's Ok in a way 'cause it gave me a break to clean off my desk a little and track down one of those things I'd overlooked. It turns out that a certain Fan Fiction authoress whom shall remain nameless sometimes forgets to attach her story the first time she sends it and what I overlooked was that the story wasn't there. But that's not important now, what is important is that we have a great new Fan Fiction from Frosty. It's called Book of Secrets and it ranges from the White House to Buckingham Palace to the Black Hills in South Dakota and from the American Revolution to the 31st century. You see, Fry left Leela and PE and New New York 9 years ago and eventually got a degree in History from Mars U. Now he's back, hot on the trail of a treasure, the secret of which has been guarded by the Fry family all the way back to Minute Man Yancy Fry. And he also finds that Leela has a fiancé! Promo pic by CosmicF.

Do you like blood? Violence? Freaks of nature? Well, freaks of nature we've got, the other two you'll have to seek elsewhere. What we DO have though is another nifty movie trailer. BackToTheFuturama is back with his latest video Frankenstein, the trailer to House of 1,000 Corpses set to clips of our favorite freaks of nature.
Buddies
