Robert Hawks... he seems to go on and on forever...
Posted on January 28, 2006 by Leandro
We have another Fan Art image by veteran Fan Artist Robert Hawks, who's been with this site since the very beginning! This time he's scanned a cover from Futurama Comics, with a new background. I had hoped this picture would introduce the new Thumbnail Gallery to the Fan Art section, but I ran into a slight problem (read: it broke the whole section when I tried to merge the code) so I suppose that'll have to wait a little while.

But, for a consolation price... the eCards are working again! After who-knows-how-long downtime, the eCards section finally is functional again so you can send greetings to all your eFriends. Send away!

New eCards will come as soon as I fix the script to actually upload them. Fixing this section also fixed the Puzzles section, so you can have some fun putting Futurama piccys together, too!
Cool, Magic! Just what I need to fix this site's scripts...

We have two new pieces of Fan Art from a new submitter, Sue-chan. Both are hand-drawn, and excellent quality; the one you can see to the right shows Bender the Magnificent sawing Fry in two halves, and there's another one showing the Futurama crew as part of an RPG game. You can see more of her great pictures at her personal website.

I took a little time to clean up The Links Zone, mostly getting rid of dead sites, which unfortunately were plenty . Hopefully the series' revival on DVD will spark some interest and we'll see new, fresh Futurama websites emerge.
Bender belches: Fry's now homeless. Yet another victim of the abuse of alcohol...
Posted on January 26, 2006 by Graham
Oh dear, the thumbnail to your right seems to show a tower in flames, with Fry looking on. This is what happens when you allow a robot to drink spirits: they end up burning down their apartment. Only thing is, this robot is Bender, and although he's made of metal, so is unlikely to get hurt that much by this calamity, poor Fry, who lives with him in the Robot Arms Apartments, now has to find new digs or it's Homicide: Life on the Streets... well, it's life on the streets. Then again, he could always go to Leela's place and see if she'll accept him on the couch. In any case, what is important isn't what's happening in a 1,000 years time, it's the present. This present has brought about Big Red, who has sent in two pictures for our Fan Art section. All hail the present, bringer of goods. Anyway, the picture whose thumbnail you can see to your right is based on the seventies disaster movie The Towering Inferno, and as you can guess, if you don't know already, was a film about a skyscraper on fire and the inhabitants' attempts to escape it, which starred Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and an old Fred Astaire. Then again, that's not the only disaster on offer, because Big Red has come up with another picture that's based on The Poseidon Adventure, which is yet another seventies disaster movie, but this time on an upturned, sinking cruise liner. This time, though, it doesn't star Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine, but Fry and Leela. Will they get out of this disaster alive? Will they fall in love? Will room service be a bit delayed? Go and take a look to find out.
More buggy code for you to test! Yay!

I've made some huge changes to the Oekaki Archive, a section that was definitely lacking. Besides updating it with all the drawings that are actually Futurama-related (ditching the spam and off-topic pictures), I added a feature that's likely to be ported to the main Fan Art gallery: a little preview thumbnail for each artist. Instead of having the listing say the artist name, number of pics and last update in a single line, I'm displaying a small thumbnail of the last pic from that artist, and the data to the right. If I don't get many emails saying that the new display sucks, I'll implement it into the Fan Art gallery eventually. If I get many emails saying they really like this display method, I'll implement it into the Fan Art gallery sooner than that
Burton claymation crossover madness
Posted on January 24, 2006 by Kenneth
Because you have to have some kind of madness at a madhouse, and this comes to you from our Fan Art section, from none other than Futurama Freak. She's drawn two Futurama parodies, both related to Tim Burton's two claymation horror animation films. The first, as pictured, is Fry and Leela ala The Corpse Bride, while she also has a picture of Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas in Futurama/Groening style as well. If you're a fan of her art and a fan of those movies, you're in for a trick or treat.

Secondly, another Happy Birthday shout out to another Futurama voice actor. Phil LaMarr, the voice of Hermes, Reverend Lionel Preacherbot, Ethan "Bubblegum" Tate, and many others over the course of the series turned 38 today on the 24th.
Oh no! Pirates have taken over! We must now update daily, or walk the plank!
Posted on January 23, 2006 by Leandro
I was looking around my harddrive for stuff to update with, and I ran into TWELVE images I had forgotten to put up. Yeah, I know, I deserve to walk the plank AND update daily while being slowly digested by the sharks. Shame oh me, oh so much shame. The twelve images come from Cap'n Skusting who's doing some great images showing the Pirate Universe, as well as parody posters and more. Enjoy!
Hey, does this mean we go back to daily updates?
Posted on January 22, 2006 by Leandro
After a kinda long update hiatus, looks like we're getting some regularity back. The news of the DVD movie is great indeed, and I hope the DVD sales from the movie are high enough to warrant a comeback. We deserve that, dangit!

On today's update we have a new Amy pic from Javier, the infamous webmaster of The Futurama Point. TFP has been having some server troubles lately, but it's still one of the best Futurama sites out there (this is the other one ). The picture was actually drawn by someone else, but Javier scanned and coloured it with permission, and it looks great. Take a look at his DeviantART Gallery for more of his pics.

There is also a new Poem by Kriebs called My Fondest that has been awaiting publication for a while. Those of you interested in Fan Fiction will probably not like hearing that the old scripts are completely dead and I'm rebuilding the section locally at the moment. But don't worry, things will be back to a certain measure of normality soon enough... you may see new content popping there very soon!
OK, Fry, I admire your effort in trying to find out what women want, but you've gone a bit too far this time...

It seems that there's good news going around about the resurrection of Futurama. It's not 1st April yet, so there has to be something in these stories. Still, while you wait for plots of Leela and Fry deciding whether they're an item or not, the latest and greatest crimes of Bender, Zoidberg's relentless pursuit of being accepted as a filthy, smelly crab, Hermes balancing the books, Cubert's new popularity drive, and Zapp's latest wheeze to get Leela in the sack, let me introduce some stuff to keep your eyes occupied while the writers come up with stuff. I have some work for our Fan Art section that's come from Robert Hawks. He has come up with two pictures, one that features Leela, Amy and Fry, but only two bodies on show (based on the episode "Put Your Head On My Shoulder"), and the other that has Leela thinking she's won Miss Universe (which is based on the episode "Lesser of Two Evils"), only to find out later that there was a balls-up. Then again, at least Fry got to have sex with a radiator... I kid you not. I mean, what possessed... forget it, just enjoy Robert's latest works.
I read it on the Internet so it must be true...

Time for another spin in the ol' rumour mill.

First we have a Q&A session with Peter Ligouri, president of FOX Entertainment, at the Television Critics Association. In this report from the event on the Futon Critic Mr. Ligouri aknowledge the continued popularity of Futurama, but without giving any substantial statements.

So that's a bit disheartening, right?

Then yesterday this post appeared on the Billy West forums. Made by the voice wizard himself:

Here's the official word on Futurama!!
David X. phoned me about an hour ago and said that this Futurama project
is a done deal! Here's the word from DX---
There are 4 DVD movies that we'll start recording at the end of July or
August.Full feature length FUTURAMA movies.
Everybody is excited to get back together--as I am!

Into the Future,

The post appear almost at the bottom of the page.

While we still lack official confirmation from either Matt Groening or the FOX Network, this is indeed very uplifting.
At last... an excuse to swear in an update...

Yep, because Futurma voice actor Billy West's trailer for his upcoming Billy Bastard show is up at YouTube for all to review. May I warn those sensitive to strong language that if you click, you bring any being-shocked moments upon your self. The trailer is for a new production that uses puppets, and also stars Rob Paulsen and Jim Cummings, telling the take of Billy's life when he was in a rut of drugs and booze.

Secondly, a big Happy Birthday to Leela's voice-actor, Katey Sagal, who turns 52 today, on the 19th of January.
Update? Me? Has hell finally frozen over? Or is it a lingering New Years hangover?
Posted on January 14, 2006 by Teral
You be the judge of that. The only two pieces of information I can give is; the hangover I had last year were more severe than this year and a high pressure system moving in from Heck will result in clear skies and moderate wind with temperatures slightly below 0. Around Tuesday a front from Limbo will collide with the high pressure system resulting in foggy and windy conditions for the rest of the week.

Okay, so I am a bit rusty in my ranting skills and my non-sequitor nonsense need a lot work before it's up to par, but given this is my first update in 6 weeks, I'm giving myself an A--, the worst grade imaginable. Nevertheless when an email arrived from Spacedal11 containing 3 FanArts I dropped everything I had in my hands .... 3 days later when the doctor said I could start using my foot again I dusted off the ol' update script for FanArts and rushed to give you this bloated and horribly written update. I mean I could probably have covered everything in 2 or 3 sentences and in a few seconds I'm starting on my third paragraph! When will I learn? NEVER!!

Anyway, Spacedal11 have send us 3 pictures. 2 of them show Leela in Lara Croft's clothes. The thumbnail picture Leela having a 'friendly' disagreement with someone and she's now using some pretty persuasive arguments. The second one has her standing knee-deep in what appears to be sewerwater. The final picture show Leela as some kind of future assasin or secret agent type-person-thingy. Enjoy.
Internal Server Error?! Who wrote this piece of crap?!
Posted on January 13, 2006 by Leandro
It appears that my beloved new script is having even more troubles than the old one. Which leaves me with three options: roll back to a previous version and try to patch that one, keep on trying to fix the new one, or drink copious amounts of alcohol and write a new one from scratch. Obviously, the last option includes me getting drunk and is thus better.

Meanwhile, I went and just uploaded a couple of pictures manually. Using FTP. For the first time (on this site) in five years. The first one is the pic you see to the right of my rant, sent by a great Fan Artist that goes by the name Wu Konguk. His whole gallery is very worth looking at, so just clicky the link already and go there! The second piccy is the one shown left, that has been waiting to be put up since last month. This Xmas-y piccy comes from Paul Metcalfe, and would've made a nice eCard if that script worked. Sorry, sorry, I promise to fix the bloody scripts! You can go and view those pics for now... And if you're greeted by a bunch of blank thumbnails posting to a directory listing, uh, I'm working on it
Good news, everyone! I've sold Planet Express to Mom!

For those of you without a game console (like me), that is the line that opens Futurama: The Game, a real fun game (so I'm told) with the whole staff from the series behind it (except it's all 3D animation instead of what we're used to see on the TV). The game was never released for the PC, but that didn't stop me from getting a copy of the PS2 version... to dig around the files until I managed to extract all the cutscenes from the game, that make an entire 34-minute episode. I can't put that video up here in the site because our bandwidth would be sucked dry, but at least this gives us a nice update for our Sounds Clips section: a bunch of sound clips from Futurama: The Game featuring all the original voices. Heavy spoilers there if you haven't played the game!

If you're interested in the video from the game, I converted it to Windows Media Video format, and you can download it using the eMule P2P program; log onto a decent server ( port 4661, or port 5661 will do it) and search for the file Futurama The Game.wmv; you can click that link if you have eMule installed and configured to handle ed2k links. The file is 64.71MB; beware of incomplete versions or fakes! And please keep the file shared for others to download as well. There's obvious gaps in the places where the game sequences should be, but the episode is still 100% watchable, and very funny too. Enjoy!
Hooray for Futurama Guide Pages!
Posted on January 7, 2006 by Kenneth
Don't think I've abandoned them yet for a second... just because they might not be coming thick and fast. Yes, another new Futurama Graphic Guide page is all read for your viewing and reading pleasure, in all it's super-cleary, new info-ey, DVD grabby goodness. The episode in question this time is Fear of a Bot Planet from the first season. So if you're into these things, click away, and enjoy. Hopefully I'll have more pages for you soon.

Also, on another note, I've done another big update to the Voices in Futurama list. I've fixed a lot of errors in it, but more importantly, every single speaking role of a character from the show has been assigned to a voice actor now. It took a lot of careful listening to the DVD's to finish it off, but it's done. There'll, of course, be a similar guide page with the voices listed on it sometime too. Enjoy!
News from Billy Boy
Posted on January 4, 2006 by Kenneth
Well, on top of Graham's update with some hopeful news of Futurama's possible return, here's even more hope from the voice-king himself, Billy West, from his very own message board...

Good news everyone!
I just got an e-mail from David X.Cohen saying that things look very good for the Futurama DVD's! He said we'll probably be starting up after new years.I'm very psyched to get back together with all my friends again. I guess this is a belated xmas present!

All happy now,

Good news indeed. Here's hoping for new Futurama in some form in late 2006 or early 2007.
Will they or won't they stop teasing us?
Posted on January 4, 2006 by Graham
OK, boys and girls, read the links below and weep.

Let's hope there's some substance to these rumours. It would be damn great if they came to fruition.

What, you expected some content? Oh well, bite my pink, fleshy arse.
Hmm... need memory, quick. Must remember to remember not to forget...
Posted on January 3, 2006 by Graham
Now, if I remember correctly, you pull this lever here, then push that green button there, spin around and then count to ten. Yeah, I'm sure that'll create the update. *fifteen seconds later* OK, that didn't work. See what happens when you've been busy being lazy for some time, you forget how to do the simple things in life. I'm surprised I'm still alive and haven't forgotten how to eat and drink. Wow, I can still type. Groovy! Oh, look, I can still read. Man, things are looking good. Still, how the heck do I update. Anyway, while I ponder that, I'll inform you about a new work that's been sent in by El-Man, who has created a neat picture for our Fan Art section. BTW, at this moment of time while I type this, Leandro is having a fit with his scripts. Right now, he's informing me that we should really be taking advantage of MySQL as a database. Oh dear, the fun of being a webmaster and talking to another webmaster on Gaim. Oh, wait, I was meant to be updating... I forgot. Anyway, El-Man's picture shows Leela in a beat up way with her back against the wall. She looks rough and nearly beaten. But will she give in? Never! Never, I tells yer. Well, while Leela fights on and Leandro does battle with the never-ending script monster he created, I'll let you browse El-Man's page. Hmm... some risque pictures in there. There, that's got more visiting his page.
